JFC, “gun influencer” is a phrase that should not exist.
I’d be content extending that to include all social media “influencers,” not that anybody cares what I think.
Why skirt the law like this? It’s $500/year for a Class 1 SOT that lets you import and own
all themachine gunsyou want. That sounds much cheaper than getting caught. For Vickers, the felony conviction means that one of the nation’s leading gun gurus can no longer own or possess firearms. He must forfeit his gun collection to the U.S. government.
Oof, that’s gotta sting.
Edit: corrected below
You can’t just get the class 1 and import all you want, you have to have a demonstration cause. Vickers was using the demonstration letter to aquire guns for personal use via a police department that didn’t have a reasonable need for the firearms and never actually had the guns demonstrated.
If you had a demonstration letter from Houston PD and, with your class 1, you imported an MP7 which representatives from Houston PD tried out under your supervision, that is above board. It wouldn’t matter if they ended up buying MP7s or not.
If nobody from Houston PD ever saw the MP7 and that wasn’t due to reasonable circumstances, that is questionable.
If you bought dozens of machines guns of various designs and the local police department wrote the letter as a favor with no intention of testing the guns, you are Vickers.
If you could just get a class 1 and go out and buy all the new machine guns you wanted, everybody would be buying machine guns.
Ahh, I was not aware of the demonstration clause. Thanks for clearing that up; it sounded like a dumb way to get caught otherwise.
but Vickers shocked his fans, many of whom believe he was unfairly targeted
Many of his fans are clearly morons.
Not sure why there are exceptions for SWAT teams. No SWAT team needs machine guns. Gun nuts say over and over again that they are significantly worse than semi automatic so a SWAT team would just be hindered by them.
Season 5 of Fargo has entered the chat.
