Chinese police operating openly in an EU country. Orban and Putin are both going to turn their countries into Chinese puppet states.

Can a country get kicked out of NATO?

No. Well, okay, if one party is in violation of the terms of a treaty, then it’s possible for other parties to nullify their own obligations, but NATO doesn’t impose a treaty obligation to not do anything like this.

In theory, everyone else could just leave NATO and join a “NATO 2.0” that’s identical other than having Hungary in it, and it’d be functionally identical.

I think that something like that would require a much more dire situation than appears to be the situation at this point. Probably something to watch, though.

It can, but it’s not easy. And conditions on the ground in Europe are so different today that a militarized EU seems more likely than a NATO 2.0. Especially if Trump becomes president of the US again, as seems frighteningly possible, they won’t be able to count on the Americans. Nor would they really want to, one suspects.

    What’s unusual about it?

He’s demonstrating his sabotaging of the EU & NATO, so he is demonstrating his real allegience with Putin & CCP, why wouldn’t they want to increase that, while the EU & NATO continue failing-to-appease-Orban?

    I don’t get why it’d be surprising.
