This reeks of the media industry pearl clutching due to piracy which is pretty hilarious because it’s not hard to rip content and will remain so
I mean I can abandon HDMI if not for consoles to only supporting HDMI output. Like how many people still trying to rip dvd or blueray through a console??
I have comes to realize it was never about piracy it was about control and always has been. It was not about about real lost sales but shareholder perception of potential gains if they had full control.
They look at Apple and wish they had the same amount of control. Piracy is the small minority they point at to distract people when they take away your freedom to do what you want with the property you pay for.
You think they are thinking how much they could get if they did away with piracy. What they really are thinking is how much they could make if they could make your purchase obsolete the moment they can sell you a newer one to juice this quarters profits and lock you into a ecosystem that you can’t leave.
DisplayPort is the better and more efficient protocol anyways.
and the better connector
I like type C on my Benq monitor, do gaming monitors use that?
that’s just a funny form factor for display port
Well then, I love type c the most. My monitor can connect multiple devices like peripherals, desktop amplifier, charge things and even transfer data
I’m pretty sure it is.
However, when using a DP cable, my GPU disables itself if the computer is left unattended for 20ish minutes. Moving the mouse, using the keyboard, turning the monitor on and off, nothing is displayed once it shuts down even if I hear music/apps/games running.
Without changing any settings, using a HDMI cable solves that problem.
I’m gaming at QHD/120fps so a HDMI cable is plenty for the task.
there seems to be a black screen driver bug or something for the windows sleep power management function that plague quite a bit spectrum of cards. In my case it’s not DP but when my GPU go sleep on older system, it just can’t wake up anymore.(both monitor, one DP one HDMI) that includes the shorter auto sleep mode when you lock the computer.
My newer system doesn’t have that issue even with the same monitor/port. So it must be something like BIOS for MB/monitor/GPU and system all together that the protocol from say, windows and GPU is updated, but the MB or the monitor is not. Unfortunately, I can’t get any more newer BIOS for my old 4+ years AM4 MB nor for the 3+yo monitor. I simply disable the monitor sleep function and all is good, I just need to turn off monitor manually.
Everything is up to date and monitor sleep is turned off.
I’m starting to wonder if I give up on the 7700XT and go back to my 6600XT, it was sure as hell less troublesome.
Just curious, is it a Samsung monitor? My company had a run of monitors that all started acting up about three years after they were bought.
Also, while I’m sure you have checked this, this sounds like a hardware problem. It might be fixed with drivers or firmware on either end.
Already troubleshooted the hell out of it to no avail. It is a ViewSonic Omni monitor.
Glad you found a workaround!
That sounds like an issue with your computer, not the DP cable.

Unfortunately it’s rare to find a TV with DisplayPort. I recently bought a 65" TV that supports 144Hz refresh up to 4k with the intention of hooking it to my PC and playing couch coop on the couch. It’s been a blast. The 50’ fiber optic HDMI 2.1 cable works great but it only works as HDMI 2.0. Good luck finding a 50’ DP cable, too.
Apparently the solution is just to buy a stupid DP->HDMI dongle and put it behind the PC. For now, 1440p/120fps is more than adequate. I’d rather have framerate than resolution.
