I originally joined Reddit in 2011, and in the beginning it was dominated by cat content. It was rare to see a post about dogs. Sometime in the mid 20-teens this phenomenon reversed. It’s always been a “pet theory” of mine that this reversal was due to Reddit becoming mainstream, and that it’s initial nerdy/techie user base preferred cats to dogs.
I think my theory is further supported by Lemmy. It’s pretty clear that most of Lemmy’s user base are techies, and currently it’s dominated by cat content. Just a shower thought. May be wrong.
NOTE: I love dogs and cats. This post isn’t arguing favoritism.
I had two dogs and 4 cats. Dogs are meh.
I grew up with cats and have spent the last two weeks back at my parent’s house with their current 2 cats.
Cats were fine growing up but now that I have had dogs, I’ve become the total opposite. I hate these damn cats scratching at my door when I try to sleep. I miss my beagle dearly and can’t wait to get back home.
I had 6 cats until my early 30’s when I got married to a dog lady. Small dogs are the shit, large dogs are meh to me.
Small dogs are nice. I really like my boston terrier, even though she’s really naughty.
FIFY
Nah, most small dogs would fuck a cat up for sure. Depends how small we’re talking, but pound for pound dogs are definitely more powerful. Bigger mouth, more aggression, etc.
My last cat used to chase large dogs. I’m sorry, but your small dog is literally a cat food.
Avoiding confrontation doesn’t mean you can’t win it. You’re being super weird dude.
Those large dogs can literally rip your cat apart, happens all the time.
