I originally joined Reddit in 2011, and in the beginning it was dominated by cat content. It was rare to see a post about dogs. Sometime in the mid 20-teens this phenomenon reversed. It’s always been a “pet theory” of mine that this reversal was due to Reddit becoming mainstream, and that it’s initial nerdy/techie user base preferred cats to dogs.
I think my theory is further supported by Lemmy. It’s pretty clear that most of Lemmy’s user base are techies, and currently it’s dominated by cat content. Just a shower thought. May be wrong.
NOTE: I love dogs and cats. This post isn’t arguing favoritism.
Cats are for asocial schitzoids. Dogs are for people who go outside. DOGS FOREVER
Why cats are better than dogs: the majority of people don’t train their dogs properly.
People are even worse at training their cats.
It blows my mind that in my jurisdiction dogs need to be registered, up to date on shots, leashed, kept on your property. Cats are a free for all. They can be left outside and are free to trespass. They kill over 2 billion birds a year in the US alone. Cats piss on everything on my property, use my yard as a litter box. I had to take down my bird feeders because it was a death trap. And there is NOTHING I can do about it. Fuck cats. For good measure, fuck irresponsible dog owners, too.
Sounds like a Pitbull owner’s catchphrase after it mauls a family member.
I don’t like going outside but I do like dogs. One of the advantages of having a dog is that it means I do sometimes have to venture outside.
Por que no los dos?
True dat, saying this as a proud asocial schitzoid. MORE POWER TO ME!
Bold. I like it, and I am you, just in another body… but bold comment. Let’s see how it fares
Dogs are for people that don’t feel content unless something desperately needs their attention or it will die. Codependent narcissists.
I like dogs like I like kids. They can be fun for a short bit, I like to be able to give them back when they get to needy and/or shit themselves.
That’s a pretty bold statement, I have a dog and don’t feel that way at all. I’ve also owned several cats. Interesting point though.
