OTTAWA — Canada's population of those 85 and older is expected to triple by 2073 to as many as 4.3 million people, an increase that will likely place new pressure on the country on several fronts, one demographer says.
Choosing to stay stupid when given the option to learn is not plausible deniability. It’s just staying stupid, and PP will get called out on it if/when he uses it as an excuse.
Called out in parliament, maybe, but not by anyone inclined to vote for him. I’ve never met a Conservative voter who thinks critically when it comes to voting (and I’ve met several with advanced degrees). Policy and performance don’t matter; they vote for ‘their team’ and based on beliefs - not evidence - that ‘conservatives are good with money’ and similar swill. It’s more like being a sports fan or a religious devotee than a rational elector, ime
You’re right, his base won’t call him out. But we’ve got some of the best journalists in the world here in Canada and I guarantee you every one of them will hold his feet to the fire on that topic.
I hope you’re right! I have very little confidence in mainstream news media these day to do anything besides serve the interests of corporations and the wealthy. Recent examples: (coverage of) Colonialist genocide in Palestine, carbon ‘tax’, recent capital gains tax. This issue is compounded by how few Canadians read non-mainstream news. I know you do, but I think we’re clearly outliers since we’re on Lemmy
Honestly we need the population to continue economic growth. But we need housing services like we had in Ontario in the 90s.
Technically speaking we need a lot more infrastructure as whole. Housing being the most dire one.
I’m actually starting to feel like Trudeau actually thought a ahead on this one politically and really setting up Pierre to fail.
I mean Pollivere, refused to have access to security docs… Plausible deniability…

You should read independent sources then. The Winnipeg Free Press, the Breach, CanadaLand, etc etc are all good.
Here’s a link to a listing of Canadian independent news sources.
CanadaLand is still on your list? https://www.readthemaple.com/i-went-to-jesse-browns-talk-on-the-slow-pogrom-in-media/
