imo legal counsel should be fired for allowing this to air after the Madison tweets. 100% feels like this was a PR/Legal approved scripted video.
Man, Madison’s tweets took this to a whole new level. I haven’t watched the video yet so idk how bad it is considering the new info, but maybe they haven’t seen the tweets yet? Or another miscommunication happened (like it seemed to have happened many times in the past lol).
They don’t address it in the video, and it does not mesh well with the video’s tone at all. I’m assuming its a horrendous oversight considering that Madison started tweeting around midnight Vancouver time, and this video went up on floatplane around 2-3 AM Vancouver time.
Maybe if they listened to techJesus and didn’t rush so much they could have avoid it.
tech Jesus built my hotrod! seriously though, I watched tons of GN while building my last desktop. Check the thermals, shit is heating up!
Yeah her tweets plus lining up the nearly all male executive team to talk about the things they are fixing, which made no mention of the issues raised about employee treatment wasn’t a good look. Especially when they keep making a joke about firing on of them (maybe an ongoing LTT joke that I’m not in on).
They all had dead eyes and looked like they were reading from a teleprompter
Just read her tweets not too long ago. I feel so bad for her

that always felt slimy to me, the way he talks about employees labor/time like a business expense. (which it is but as the employee, it’s literally your livelihood on their line sheet.)

Might be something wrong with the main Piped instance. (I am a Luddite so I’m just guessing)
Good news is that Piped is a federated service like lemmy, so in the future you can just look at their instance list and try another: https://github.com/TeamPiped/Piped/wiki/Instances
here’s a backup link: https://piped.mha.fi/watch?v=0cTpTMl8kFY
Piped is currently generally broken: issue#2809
Other similar services had to patch too, because of changes on Youtube’s side. So now Piped works only some of the times, until it will get updated.
EDIT: Typo.
Dang, I wasn’t aware of that, thanks. Seems like FOSS front ends are fighting a cat and mouse game, judging from my experience with piped and nitter.
I assume an Invidious link would also be subject to the same youtube side issues then?
Invidious currently works for me, but reading in the Issue in their repo it seems there are still problems.
For whoever wants to try here’s invidious instances list , just add /watch?v=0cTpTMl8kFY after one instance’s link to get to the video.
Same, Piped never works, and you have to find the original since they don’t even link to it. Just post an actually working link people, people who prefer alternative frontends will have auto-redirectors and so on installed anyways.
Just change piped.video to youtube.com in the URL.
There a option in the preferences to enable the “Watch on Youtube” button.
I’m out of the loop on this. Can anyone ELI5 what’s going on with LTT? Don’t have time to watch this long video before work.
Here’s a link for an overview of the whole GamersNexus v LTT thing so far: https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/events/gamers-nexus-vs-linus-tech-tips-billet-labs-review-controversy
This is LTT’s response, basically saying: we’ll do better with our labs data / corrections, we’ll fix our relationship w/ Billet Labs, and we’ll take a couple days off from uploads to get our house in order
problem is, one of their ex employee’ Madison posted some serious allegations on LTT’s work environment 2-3 hours before they uploaded and they haven’t addressed that at all.
Madison’s comments would have been extremely early in the morning in Vancouver time, and I suspect LTT’s response video was a scheduled upload since it also went up early. I’d say we should give LTT maybe a day or so to reply to that.
Was the poor work environment just that they had a quota for videos and it was higher than Madison could get done without feeling stressed out? Or is there more to it?
you can read the whole twitter/x thread here: https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1691693740254228741.html
but TLDR is:
- Over work
- Mentally draining/abusive workplace
- harassment
- (maybe intentionally) bad management practices
- lack of any signs of improvement
- Micro management
- Name calling
- Gaslighting
If it’s true, then that’s really bad.
I really don’t know how much of this I can believe. It starts out fairly level headed but becomes increasingly provocative and deranged sounding.
My impression is this person has malicious intent. They are evidently mentally unwell; cutting yourself for a day off work is extreme.
I’m sure there is some truth in here, but I’m not going to dig for it when I just outright disbelieve some of the later statements.
Pretty fucked, mate
Because I don’t believe someone?
If even a fraction of what is written is true, it should be investigated. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
I can believe someone cutting themselves to justify getting time off work, wife used to work in a very toxic workplace and with all the crap and guilt trips she’d get about having a day off work it took either something extremely serious or me telling her she’s that too sick and that there’s no way she’s going in to work for her to call in sick.
I can also believe someone would cut themselves to justify getting time off work, because I’ve also been a victim of workplace bullying and harassment.
My point was that she was willing to be self-destructive for the sake of being deceitful. Being deceitful is rational if the motivation is selfish, but if the reason is literal self-harm, then that tells me her motivations are suspect, hence, my skepticism as a whole.
My biases also factor into my assessment. I can totally believe LMG are overworked. But the claims about the toxicity of other employees just seems too farfetched for how I believe the company culture is.
My stance is tenuous until there is more evidence to corroborate her claims.
I got about halfway through the video and still have no clue what they’re talking about. But this video really felt like it was meant more to address investors than a community of fans. It felt really uncomfortable to watch.

As horrible as that was, that is not LTT’s fault. Linus even let the kid keep it after being moved by the kid. The fan base apparently had other ideas. It is scary what a bunch of angry internet people can do.

You mean like this? That looks like an attempt to me.

Let’s not move the goal posts here. You said “would you stand and watch” he did not stand and watch. He did say something and told them to stop. What else can he do? Hunt them down personally and make them apologize? It is very unfortunate what happened, but Linus is not to blame here.
What would you have preferred he done instead that he didn’t already?
deleted by creator
Clearly the kid was upset, but you are avoiding the important part about what Linus could have done to make it not happen. Is there anything at all he could have done to prevent it that he didn’t already try? I am open to hearing what you have to say in that regard as we can learn something from it.
Throwing insults doesn’t really help prove your point.
