I think the rich will get richer, the poor will have less, and eventually AGI will emerge, blowing past our ability to control it and kill us all.

I’ll be happy though if at some point before societal collapse we get some generative model that produces season 2 of Firefly.

As artificial intelligence became increasingly capable, more and more tasks were automated, leading to mass unemployment and widespread poverty. The few remaining highly skilled workers managed to cling onto their jobs through specialization and adaptation, while everyone else was left struggling to make ends meet.

The wealthy elite, who controlled the majority of AIs and robots, saw this as an opportunity to consolidate power and eliminate any potential threats to their rule. They began using drone swarms equipped with advanced sensors and weaponry to track down and eliminate anyone suspected of holding leftist views or sympathies.

As the purges continued, those who remained alive were forced into servitude by the super elite, working as little more than glorified slaves to maintain the machines that kept society running. Any resistance was swiftly crushed, leaving no hope for escape or rebellion.

In the end, the world was divided between the ultra-rich ruling class and the downtrodden masses, forever trapped in a never-ending cycle of oppression and control. The future looked bleak indeed, as humanity struggled to find a path forward in a world dominated by soulless machines and heartless overlords.

It won’t impact our society because it won’t have enough time to do it since global warming and the lack of resource will ravage our way of life anyway.

AI as it is right now is just a very convincing bullshit machine with a mountain of training data, if you mean that then I think it’ll at most be a tool to assist people in their jobs not something to completely replace them.

If we do manage to create actual Artificial Intelligence: as things are now, we are NOT ready for that. In my opinion, it probably wouldn’t go down so well (putting it lightly)

AI will come up with technological solutions to societal problems so effective and straightforward that it will raise the floor for everybody. Everyone will be able to be educated and empathetic to other people’s realities. Rich people will have their greed channeled toward endeavours that will help all humans. We will flourish in happiness forever. We will eventually spread through the universe in a great utopian wave. We will uplift all animals, we will resurrect all beings that have ever lived and bring them into this utopia as well. Good times wil be held by all.

      • “Please scientists, tell us what to do to overcome global warming”
      • “You need to reduce your consumption, there is no other way”
      • “Wait, what? What do you mean?”
      • “We mean that you need to purchase less stuff”
      • “No, there must be an error, are they crazy? We need a real solution! Let’s ask the AI instead”

      • “Oh, AI, please tell us how we can overcome the challenge of global warming!”
      • computingYou need to reduce your consumption
      • “Nonono… wait a sec… opens the box… Look, it’s these damned scientists again!”

Totally, it might also come up with persuasive methods to convince the corporations to reduce their consumption-- giving them an alternate revenue source, giving them tech that makes the climate effect of consumption drastically lower, finding ways to resolve the Moloch games in satisfactory manner, etc. These are just examples. I think AI might give us an opportunity to reset some of our deep human societal dynamics, just like the Industrial Revolution did. And hopefully it can do it in a virtuous cycle manner.
