Tldw
according to this person, most issues are resolved:
-
windows & macos still has telemetry that you need to opt out of
-
Linux does have any
-
privacy policy no longer has the requirement to be 13 years old and no longer says they will send stuff to law enforcement
Remaining issues:
- contributor agreement: includes a clause that says they can repackage the application for a proprietary product, and while they say it will stay FOSS, why is that there
Forks:
- Tenacity is the only one that’s still getting updates, so if you want something else then this is the one. Original developer left after death threats from 4chan because of naming choice, and development since then has been on and off
my thoughts
I haven’t really needed audio editing, but I might keep both installed. If I can’t do something on Tenacity then I’ll use the other one
fucking 4chan moment, I can’t believe how sad those people can get sometimes

No problem :)
This is something I was exploring a while back, and it would be nice if I had a short summary to refer to in the future :)
I recently (yesterday) discovered a web-based port of Audacity. I haven’t messed with it much and don’t do much audio editing in general, but it’s here FWIW.
What was 4chan’s issue with the name?
I think they wanted to push the fork Sneedacity?
Any idea what issue 4chan had with the name? I honestly can’t imagine being so upset over this name.

Try wavacity as a replacement: https://wavacity.com
“Failed with error code 1003. See logs for more info.”
I guess ill never know.
I uninstalled it after that initial change, but after they backtracked, I found the reaction to be good enough to reinstall it. Otherwise I’d consider using an older version.
