Talk about your recent reads here with your fellow community members!
Everyone is welcome to discuss and share ideas on what they’ve been into this past week. This is where you can get suggestions for new manga while also connecting with those reading the same series.
Feel free to write a whole essay or just a sentence. Ask for recommendations and/or give them. Just comment on whatever you feel. The goal is to get users talking so the more the merrier. Just remember to be respectful because we’re all here to talk about what we love and have fun while doing so.
I have made a conscious effort to seek out and post oneshots to this community as I felt as though nobody in the community was really posting any. So, I am going to devote my post this week to the oneshots I have found recently that are good. But first, my weekly reminder to check out Atsumare! Fushigi Kenkyu-bu as it is my favorite SOL series going.
- Nondemiru?: This is a oneshot by a brand new author that won an award to get it published. It is very cute yuri and I really wish there was more.
- Senpai no Tokubetsu: Another very cute yuri oneshot that is a very quick read. Often these very short oneshots feel just long enough to setup a premise and then end, but this one felt a bit more fleshed out.
- Silver Rock: In case you thought I only read yuri content, here is one about a grandpa helping out his grandkid. It is on the long side, but is very worth it. I might be biased into liking this one since I lost my grandfather not too long ago.
- Shabondama: This is one that I would have never read unless I was specifically looking for oneshots. It is a quick read not only due to page count, but that there is basically no dialogue. The thing that I really liked about it was how the art style is very distinctive and dreamy while the content ultimately contrasts with that (trying not to give spoilers).
- A Villain Will Never Give Up: This one features a villain from a Sentai show and the bond that she forms with her evil robot creation. It’s cute and worth the read.
- [NSFW] Hiroshima Gyaru wa Suki Darake: Found this one right after making this post initially, so I will just add it here. This one is about a man who is stranded away from home and a friendly gal that comes to his aid.
Lastly, a oneshot that I decided against posting to the community ultimately because I had a bit of a hard time following the story (flashbacks are not very well delineated), but some people might find it worth checking out:
- Heelmaker: This one is (I am pretty sure) about a former yakuza debt collector that becomes a professional wrestler, specifically playing a heel character. He forms a bond with a girl and her siblings that we find out he has a bit of history with.
I haven’t read one shots before so thank you for posting all these. I’ll check them out.
I typically avoid oneshots. I’ve read the oneshot predecessor to some famous mangas, but I don’t think there is any that I enjoyed more than the serialized version. And if a oneshot is good but doesn’t end up as a series, then I’d feel bummed.
Started reading Go, Go, Loser Ranger!. Wasn’t expecting much going in. Thought it’s going to be similar to Hero Academia but the plot and characters are pretty interesting. The action isn’t very well drawn, but the overall quality is pretty good. I’m only on chapter 30 and it is starting to go down hill for me, but will see if it recovers.
Dungeon Meshi is over. I only started reading a few months ago, but it’s still sad to see it go. Can’t wait for the anime next year, and I hope we get to see more of the universe in the future
Going to buy the entire manga series. It’s rare to see a great manga end at the perfect place, and not keep it going for the heck of it.
There’s also Ayakashi Triangle that also just ended
I’ve been reading School-Live after finishing the anime. I liked how the anime kept details from being apparent right away when it came to introducing the school, so that was better done. Taromaru is also the best character that didn’t have a big role in the Manga. I’m enjoying the continuation of the storyline after the anime ends.
Only the ones I liked:
One piece
Sakumoto days
Some random manwha:
Overgeared, dungeon resetStarted catching up on Kill Me Baby after not reading it for a few years. It is still primo
I’ve started at the start of this week, and I just couldn’t put it down. I’m almost done, and I’m dreading that it’ll have to end eventually.
It’s not perfect, but I really appreciate how intricately details of the story come together in ways that make sense. All in all a great psychological mystery. I’m loving it.
Have you read monster?
The author is by no means underrated, but I can’t express enough how much I enjoy his big stories.
Yeah I have! Found 20cb because of Monster actually. Don’t know which I like better, but I’m leaning towards 20cb.
Mind if I ask what else you’d recommend for someone that’s enjoyed both Monster and 20cb?
Last week I read Dungeon no Osananajimi it was a lot better than I thought it would be and I can’t wait for more
Has anyone read Noah’s notes? It’s in my want to read list but I just haven’t gotten around to it yet
