Canada Bread has agreed to pay at least $50 million for its role in fixing the price of bread for years, according to documents filed in an Ontario court.
Poor bastards, got caught for what most of their buddies don’t. Must be mad. 🤭
From the article:
The bureau subsequently executed search warrants against numerous companies, including Weston, Loblaw, Metro Inc., Sobeys Inc., Walmart Canada, Giant Tiger Stores Ltd., Overwaitea Food Group and Canada Bread.
Seems like we might see more in the future. One can hope, anyways.
If they aren’t completely incompetent, it shouldn’t be too difficult to not leave a trace. ROBeLUS have been doing price fixing for ages with impunity and no receipts.
This is why inflation is so high. Holy fuck, like I’m the biggest moron ever, and even I can figure it out. I find it hilarious that government’s and experts or whatever keep talking about wrangling inflation, and it’s like well crack down on this shit, hard, and create consumer protections. Also shut down the debt sundae, and create actual standards and challenges to borrow money, and quit lending to Welfare Wally so he can finance his Sonata over 96 months with zero down.
For real. I genuinely can’t believe how bad the monopolies/oligopolies are in Canada. Soon we’ll have RoBelUs opening up a “competitor” grocery chain, and maybe a Loblaws telecom. Then we can really feel the burn.
the bread cartel is no joke.
How and why does a company “agree” to a fine? Were they given the option of rejecting it? 🤔
ia that what we call a "trust "?
