The Liberal government is moving ahead with efforts to keep assault-style firearms out of the hands of Canadians, Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc said Monday.

The only people making this divisive are 2A lobbyists from the states and Canadians who would rather be American. Guns aren’t part of culture in Canada like it is in the states. The only people I know with a PAL are those with an air rifle or who go moose and deer hunting. No one is using an AR rifle for hunting here.

People in other countries do use AR rifles for hunting all the time. Canada doesn’t allow them to be used for hunting or they would have been.

I had a gun enthusiast explain to me that AR15s are not suitable for hunting deer because the caliber is too small. Ie the deer suffers unduly.

        Interesting opinion.

AR-15 are typically 5.56mm or .223, not ideal for much beyond plinking varmints. People do use it, but it might take a couple of shots and you have to watch your range.

For deer or elk, you’d want something like .30-06 or .30/30 or 7mm Rem mag, or even .300 Win mag, but that’s a bit much.

People use .223 for hunting deer all the time using hunting rifles. I’d recommend.243 and higher but a .223 does work.
