Hi Android Community, I previously used “DFCleaner” which was a free, ad-supported app that searched specified folders for duplicate files and let you preview and delete anything that it found. This app now bothers me with a consent form for ad tracking so I’ve ditched it in protest. Are there any open source alternatives to this app? I’ve tried looking in F-Droid but couldn’t find anything relevant.

I’m all for open source versions whenever possible, but from your description nothing has changed about your app, sounds like it’s still free and ad supported, they’re just making you aware of something that’s always been there.

You realize open source doesn’t mean ad free, nor does is mean there’s no trackers in there. Usually works out that way, but those aren’t synonymous just FYI.

Also, that’s probably just google enforcing EU user consent policy which will be mandatory for mobile ads starting from January.

It’s weird that a user was happy seeing ads without consent and now decides to ditch the app because it asks for consent before showing ads it was already showing ¯_(ツ)_/¯
