Under the settlements, drivers outside New York City (OP note: in New York state, I assume) will receive a minimum $26 per hour during rides and for sick leave, adjusted annually for inflation.

    Is this an actual punishment or a slap on the wrist? I can’t seem to tell anymore because initially I think, “wow, that’s a lot of money.” But then I am reminded of how much money some of these companies are hoarding.

      It’s a settlement. The amount of money is not that small, but it ends the investigation into whether drivers should be classified as employees rather than contractors. As the article states, their stock prices soared after this, that tells you everything you need to know.
