i often see this, or its variations, in prompts. What does ai think that a masterpiece is? Does this prompt really make the final image more of a masterpiece?
In my experience, quality tags (with the exception of explicit, quantifiable descriptors like 4k) usually add nothing more than noise.
A lot of SD users got into it when the NovelAI (NAI) model was leaked, and that one actually did have some use for quality tags. Most modern models, though, are trained on (or merged with other models that are trained on) high quality images, enough that they default to being “masterpieces”, and using vague descriptors like that mean nothing.
If you want to improve the quality of your gens, it’s better to use more explicit, specific language or an appropriate LoRA.
It’s part of the rating system NAI used for fine-tuning their model. A lot of anime models share those underpinnings so people still use that descriptor.
Yes. Its similar to saying good and best. AI is really dumb, and you have to tell it to be good.
