Australia joins more than a dozen countries and the EU in expressing “grave concern” over violent attacks by settlers.
After the IDF killed three hostages who were waving white flags and speaking Hebrew, we know their intentions are to not play by the rules of war.
Mate we’ve known for decades what their intentions are.
They’ve been pretty open about the genocide stuff since the beginning.
Well, that “we” both of you mention just keeps on growing to more and more people because what Israel is doing is now so extreme that even the pro-Israel propaganda (even the one were something which was stated by an Israeli spokesperson is reported on TV by “Israel-friendly” reporters as “it is such” whilst if it’s from a Hamas source it’s reported as “the terrorist organisation Hamas said that ‘it is such’”) can’t disguise it anymore.
Lots of people did not “know it for decades” but many, hopefully most, are getting a quick education on what exactly Israel does and has been doing as the occupying power.
While I’m glad the Australian Government had decided to take at least a mild finger-wagging stance of disapproval, blaming this on “settlers” trivialises the situation in an unacceptable way. The Israeli state is perfectly able to keep Jewish extremists from invading the space and forcibly displacing Palestinians, but not only does the state choose not to, but they’re actively participating in the genocide. They’re not “settlers”, the land has been “settled” for longer than written human history. IDF snipers are not some sort of quaint uncoordinated pioneers discovering new land.
I wasn’t previously against Israel’s “right to exist”, but the atrocities the Israeli goveenment are perpetuating are making me take a far stronger stance against ethnostates of all varieties.
I want to add to this some blunt facts that the article leaves out:
-
Israeli soldiers are routinely participating in these acts of terrorism
-
Israel’s police minister, Itmar Ben Gvir is a convicted terrorist who vocally advocates for terrorizing Palestinians off their land, and eventually forcably expelling all Arabs - including Israeli citizens - from Israel. He has made one of his primary goals arming settlers.
-
Finance minister Bezalel Smotrich is to Ben Gvir’s right.
There’s no point in finger wagging. These are international crimes sanctioned and perpetrated by the state.
-
Israel has as much right to exist as Nazi Germany did. Germans need a place to call home, right?
Israel really needs to keep its people in line.
I mean, at this point I’d say their people are in line, at least with their government’s intentions.
Finally. It would have been nice to see these tactics denounced a decade or two ago, but better late than never, I guess. I’m glad to see it.
Yeah I’m not really sure what Israel expects when they have groups of citizens kicking people out of their houses and taking over land.
I’m not against Israel as a state, but they have to chill the fuck out and stop the orthodox psychos from doing that shit.
How would my neighbours feel if I had a dozen kids rampaging through their gardens and taking them over by force? Not gonna end well.
And yet we’re supposed to be shocked when Lion’s Den has no issue recruiting in the West Bank. Or why Hamas still enjoy pluralistic support within Gaza. I disagree with the choice, but completely understand it.
Those who see no hope in the future, don’t fear losing the present.
This is the best summary I could come up with:
Australia has joined more than a dozen other countries and the European Union in issuing a joint statement expressing “grave concern” about violent attacks by extremist settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank.
Australia, Canada, France and the United Kingdom are among the nations that have called out the violence, demanding Israel take “immediate and concrete steps” to tackle it.
“We strongly condemn the violent acts committed by extremist settlers, which are terrorising Palestinian communities,” the statement shared by Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) said.
It also highlighted that since the beginning of October there had been 343 violent attacks in the West Bank — killing eight Palestinians and injuring dozens more, as well as forcing more than 1,000 people from their homes.
The statement also called for Israel to protect Palestinian civilians in the West Bank, adding that those responsible for the violence must be brought to justice.
Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland were also among the countries that joined the statement, issued late on Friday.
The original article contains 497 words, the summary contains 177 words. Saved 64%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!
How about doing the same as South Africa is doing rather than meaningless theatre.
After having killed less than 1/10th of the civilians in Ukraine than Israel already killed in Gaza, Russia was already getting sanctions, and rightly so.
Even if Australia right this moment imposed sanctions on Israel - rather than this, meaningless without action, expression of concern - it would still be treating this situation using a very different moral weight than the other.
PS: The United Kingdom joining them really shows the complete total hypocrisy of such “calling out”, given that not 2 weeks ago - at a point when the number of killed Palestinians already exceeded the 10k - the UK decided to send surveillance planes to Gaza to help Israel with targetting. It’s very very hard to believe this “calling out” is anything other than yet more stalling by governments to keep the local public opinion and international partners from turning on them.

Condemn stronger, motherfuckers.
Israelis now feel like they have a free pass to kill as many palestinians as they want, while Hamas leaders freely flying around the muslim world like they aren’t responsible for so many deaths, of jews and of their own. While Netanyahu and his cabinet are pretty comfy accepting measures to kill another thousand of gazans.
Wtf is that? It’s great you condemn their actions, but before you’d act in any way, there would be several thousands of poor palestinians who happened to be born there being unable to salute your decision. Because they are dead, like really dead, cold and burried under buildings IDF bombed.
It’s cool you came to condemn such things, but it won’t help many people who lost their homes, lives. That needs more effort. Like demanding a ceasefire. Before that, it’s just words and political gestures ammounting to nothing.
There have been ceasefires. They keep getting broken.
There was even one after oct 7 and it was broken because hamas refused to release more hostages
I’ve heard IDF broke it this time. Was it a propaganda piece?
The red cross corroborated that hamas was refusing to let them pick up more hostages. Also that it seemed that hamas didnt really know which hostages were where
