I need help setting proton VPN on the WireGuard client, which will then be used on qTorrent on my media server. However, I’m not sure how the process works. I’m using an unraid server. Any help would be appreciated.
Have you read through the documentation? I don’t use ProtonVPN but this appears to be what you are looking for. https://protonvpn.com/support/wireguard-configurations/
They even have a section on how to bind the VPN to qbittorent. https://protonvpn.com/support/bittorrent-vpn/
thanks, saved me today! :)
As the other commenter pointed out, yeah definitely go read through the proton docs but if you are using docker , I recommend looking into gluetun. It has simplified so much for me personally but it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.
There was just someone a couple of days ago that mentioned Unraid was really shitty when it came to stability of docker containers. You may want to separate those two functionalities. Let unraid handle the data portion, and set up another machine for the services/docker portion.
I use the same setup with the binhex qbittorrentvpn image. Was pretty painless to set up
Would you mind sharing the steps? I tried to set it up; however, it doesn’t generate a WireGuard folder, and it doesn’t start. The logs don’t show any errors. (Have you downloaded multiple WireGuard config files from the Proton VPN account?)
I’ve been using the hotio image for qbt. It’s working pretty well. ghcr.io/hotio/qbittorrent:latest
I did use the wireguard file from protonvpn. If it didn’t generate the folder I’d check that the variables which define which VPN you’re using and your username and password are correct.
Is it not starting or is the webUI not starting? I think there’s a common problem with the latter.
It won’t start, and the logs are empty. Funnily enough, I have a different instance of qbittorrent installed; it has a WireGuard folder.
I use private internet access on MacOS, and Transmission. Would Wireguard improve my speeds?
I have cancelled my pia VPN subscription because of this i’d stay away from it.
Holy shit, that is troubling. Looks like I might finally pull the trigger on switching to Proton.
