I have a deep connection to Junji Ito’s works and realy enjoy beautifully drawn graphical violence. But not that cheap and stupid like it’s done in Gantz. I strive for something more meaningful, moreso if it’s a long manga that is availiable on the bay. Do you have some suggestions akin to Bers or Ito’s Spiral?

I personally enjoy Ito more for the psychological elements, and although I certainly appreciate the art in and of itself, that wasn’t my main draw so I might not be the best person to make recommendations.

That said, Akira’s original manga form really is just as seminal to that medium as it’s anime counterpart was. I think the storytelling is a bit dated, but the illustration is phenomenal. Since you’re sailing the seas anyways, it certainly wouldn’t hurt to take a quick peek at the art to see if it appeals to you.

Regardless, hope you find something you like!

Yeah, the psychological part is in itself amusing. I hold some of his short stories as high as a classic literature. The one about holes just of your size feels very relateable when I read local news. But Gyo or Spiral? More of a grindhouse trash movie than the thriller, and he’s nailing the gore aspect, carrying it to the absurd levels, so you start to wondering how this dude was sitting over that with inks for hours and didn’t end up in a hospital.

I’m into old media, so I guess it wouldn’t be a problem. Thank you once again!
