Basically normally it shows add to home screen to add the link which then opens in FF to the home screen.
On Lemmy it “installs” a web app which I don’t want. I would like the URL bar and menu etc
Thanks
The “add to home screen” button turns into an “install” button when Firefox detects that the website is a progressive web app (PWA). Other browsers do the same.
The difference is that a PWA can define a custom icon and name for the “app” button on your home screen and that it can use some clever caching making many PWAs offline capable (meaning you don’t need an internet connection to open the web page).
I understand the reluctance to press “install” but in the case of PWAs the install size is tiny and fully contained in Firefox and you get the added benefit of faster startup / loading times due to caching.
Oh I know what a web app is and love them usually but I want to be able to modify the URL with Lemmy.
For me the “add to home screen” shortcut turns into “install” when the page fully loads. Try opening the site in a new tab and open the menu while it’s still loading
You sir are a legend. Thanks
Idk why you wanna do it but you can add a note to your home screen with the link in it if you have a note application that is capable of widgets. The web app is basically just a ui optimized for viewing on phone but you do you.
When I add it via Firefox, it just opens FF, and I end up with a dozen wefwef tabs. I can’t get it to ‘install’ as a web app.
