It also serves to keep people isolated, and prevents kids from forming lasting relationships that can later be used to discuss and compare issues and organize.
I aim to be more human. I aim to be less apathetic as a human. Apathy grows, like a tree, and I aim to prune my own.

Honestly it’s just so useful. It should be the default.
I picked it up when I lived in Houston, but when I was bartending and stuff after returning to my home state, I’d use it heavily.
Interestingly, though, it made people think I was from another country entirely? Because in absolutely no other way do I sound even remotely southern. (I do use various non-American slang, but not with strangers) Was always a blast to have someone ask where I was from, and try to get them to pinpoint why they didn’t think I was local, when I was born 15 minutes from where the conversation was taking place :p
Ooh I hope to retain your optimism in the next few years…
Is that supposed to say Donald Trump…? Serious question because it definitely doesn’t say that at all no matter how bad your writing is…
This doesn’t surprise me… but it does make me wonder what kind of person would ignore that sort of data just for money…
I mean… really, who in their right mind says “well this is going to be catastrophic, and we could shift gears now to prevent it and release all the data and be absolute heroes among men, but nah, we’d rather it burn.”?
Money is great and all (I guess), but when the global economy collapses due to the catastrophic climate change, it’s not going to be worth a whole lot…
Ooh, there’s a song about that acronym!
MNAA MNAA, do do do do do
Tangental: your comment made me curious where, in global terms, hurricanes are even able to form. Surprisingly (to me), a lot of areas.
In what way, exactly, does ignoring people with shit takes hurt them? Butthurt? That’s a chance I’m willing to take.
Unless this one works differently than the one I read about a month or so ago, which isn’t at all clear from this article, no, probably not something we can get as kids.
The reason is that, at least at the moment, you need a sample of the cancer itself and protein markers for each individual, and each cancer type, so it’s a vaccine that you get only after you get the cancer. Plus it’s multiple doses over the course of several weeks.
They also aren’t sure if the cancer will come back after being eradicated, so for now they have no idea how effective it will be, nor how long it’ll last.
But this is a technology very much in its infancy. The first trial ever was earlier this year, so… who knows where it’ll go from there. Maybe they will be able to isolate enough common markers for enough cancers to have a childhood vax for prevention. Almost certainly a long ways off tho.
We also need smaller houses damnit! Or more duplexes of reasonable size. We need more 2-4 family properties.
Not tiny houses, not 300sqft nonsense buildings that cost more to have as standalone units…
We need more 1-2 bedroom starter options, and fewer of the 4-6 bedroom micromansions that everyone builds because it’s more worth the money from a development side. Nobody can afford those things as first time buyers.
And while we are at it, we need more apartments that can be purchased like condos or houses. Rent is all well and good for short term, but people should have long term ownership options even in big cities if they will be there for a while. It’s absurd your choices are basically rent and be at the whim of your landlord, or buy a standalone.
There’s next to none in all water, when measured by volume.
But things concentrate, so the 0.00005% adds up over time.
Considering it’s also in the water, probably not, no.
I had a puppy that specifically ate the crotch of all my underpants in the laundry. She was pooping out ladybugs and tye dye for days.
I did this in my car by accident multiple times way back in the day (like 2004). Stop for food after work, eat the fries and forget about the burger, which gets buried under stuff (I keep my car generally cleaner these days; I was a teen). It dries out completely with no actual change in appearance, smell, nothing but turning rock hard. Gross.
Needless to say, I haven’t eaten there in almost 20 years, other than an occasional fries on a road trip when that’s all there is.
I’m low-key annoyed that the article links to part 3 of the series but not part 1… Who does that??
So here’s part 1 if anyone wants to read it
Old school saw horse ;)
The justification for this seems to be “Yes we know you’ve done the hard part by taking action against them, but we simply don’t trust you to stick to that decision, and thus must monitor you to ensure you do what we want you to do with your life. Oh, but we’ll make sure your abuser knows all about it, whether you want them involved or not. That’ll definitely help keep those kids safe!”
I can absolutely see how that would be traumatic and intrusive. I hope this challenge goes places.
