‘the shooting’ is the Secret Service agent doing their job. The story going the rounds is that the agent was doing a sweep ahead of trump, saw a guy with something that looked suspicious and decided to fire on the guy. Whatever happened between recognizing that things were hinky and the shots… well. that’s the first question.

my cursory search on FL carry laws suggest that unless the guy was coming back from hunting, fishing or target shooting, then he’s not allowed to open carry (there may be some other exceptions.) It’s dubious that’s what he was doing… In any case, dude in a public, not-controlled space, not being an active shooter doesn’t generally allow for lethal force.

It’s entirely possible the agent walked up and chatted with him, or tried to, and the guy either bolted or gave him reason to justify lethal force.

But the biggest question of all: why would a guy planning to kill Trump walk around in plain sight waiting for Trump to show up?

Like. I’m guessing you could see the, uhm, idiocy in that one.

Unless it’s a pistol, its either an M16 (or Ar15,), or an AK 47. Them’s the rules in horrible reporting involving firearms.

For what it’s worth, the shooter was a secret service agent. Nobody else seems to have taken shots.

(for those wondering… her father went to an organized pheasant hunt, as VP, and accidentally wound up shooting one of his security detail in the face. It was “just” birdshot, so he didn’t die or anything. those sorts of events should be banned, though. Basically, they capture a shitload of pheasants, stage them in a space that’s “safe” to shoot at them… then scare them up so they fly over as rich fucks shoot at them. What probably happened is he got target fixation while the bird flew in a path that… well… ooooppsssies)

I have had people tear my ass up on multiple occasions for trying to remind people that Liz Cheneys anti-trump performance does not, in fact, make her a good person.

I respect her for calling bullshit on trump, but yeah. that’s like one point against many hundreds of others… Now, if she takes trump to a pheasant hunt… welllllll we can discuss that after…

even the linux-from-scratch snobs are usually pretty decent (really it’s only when it’s their first time out of the server room in too-long a time). I usually try to switch it up to something like "have you tried playing The Battle for Wesnoth. (it’s a turn based fantasy strategy game that’s… uhm. surprisingly good.)

this doesn’t solve the problem of the car taking up the parking spot (or whatever the offense was that’s getting it towed from the lot.)
