  • The fans revving for 20 seconds and the program opening it’s loading screen: “Nice”.

The fans revving for 5 seconds and the program is sitting at 0% CPU after 1 full minute: “fuck this bullshit.” But you hold onto hope and wait another 5 minutes, and as your confirming to restart the PC the program starts loading, and you have to watch it load entirely before it’s killed by the restart, and the restart takes even longer because the program actually opened.

    Or,

You browser is loading homestarrunner.com and the loading bar stops at 10% like it should for 5 minutes, but the 5 minutes passes by, and you click the clock on the task bar only to see your mouse turn into an hourglass.

  • My family gives me street and road names, landmarks, etc… which doesn’t work for me.

What I really need is an address so that I can drive to the location once. After that, in my head I’m telling myself, “fork to the right, weird house, sharp turn, field, slow down because it’s right after the old barn.”

Either that, or I need them to say something like “remember where the old movie theater used to be? The one where your brother broke his tooth? It’s the road to the left next to the gas station and it’s the third driveway on the right.”

After I drive somewhere once I can just get a feeling when I’m close to where I need to turn, or need to be, but for that first drive, you better give me exact coordinates.

  • I just accidentally deleted my original comment.

    Heres I what I deleted.

There’s a few things a bunch of other commenters are getting wrong, at least from my understanding.

The AC compressor is run by a belt from the engine. Unlike a home AC, a vehicles AC is either on or off. There is no cycling. The temp control is just changing how much outside air comes in, or how much heat is drawn from the engine.

The fan speed is not going to effect anything at all. The alternator spins to generate electricity to recharge the battery, but the amount of energy required to spin it doesn’t change based on how much electricity is being drawn.

Tamping your AC down in any way, whether by lowering fan speed, or increasing the temperature is less efficient. Use it at it’s coldest temp and highest fan speed if you’re going to use it at all.

Edit: I almost forgot to add that AC efficiency is going to be more closely tied to your driving speed and outside air temperature. Driving faster makes your AC more efficient (not necessarily your whole car). More air passing over the evaporators means more heat released from your AC to the outside, which makes colder air in your car. The colder the air outdoors, the more heat the AC can release to the outdoors, which means colder air in your car.

As for EVs, I have entirely no clue, but I would assume it’s a similar situation.

Edit: I may be entirely wrong. I’m not sure about anything anymore. I know a guy who knows all about these things, let me get him down here tomorrow and we can go from there.

  • Expandable storage is #1, great screen would just barely edge out excessive bloatware for #2.

I guess I’m just bitching at this point because I know the sony is the only one that will fit what I want. Motorola is so close to filling the space that LG left behind, it’s unfortunate they haven’t realized they are just two features short of being unique at their price point. They don’t have the ecosystem, aren’t trying to create one, so why not pack in the features everyone else ignores?

I just really wish the EU could somehow create an argument to require memory card slots. I’ve been trying my best to come up with one myself, just to put it out there in the world.

  • Seriously appreciate the suggestions because I have to catch up on phone specs since I never care about phones until I need to upgrade.

I had a couple hours to pick my current phone and my list of complaints and serious issues with it is outrageously long. I was seriously upset when LG left the phone market, and can’t believe how overlooked and downtrodden their phones were.

For me personally, I’m all about minimal bloatware, the best screen quality, at least decent chip performance, and expandable storage.

    Bloat for obvious reasons.

Screen quality due to me usually only watching TV when with my spouse and/or sailing. Otherwise I’m using my phone.

My s20 FE’s chip is ok, but it was barely a jump from my v30, and now it’s feeling slow when I use a lot of CPU intensive apps. I’ve noticed detrimental file degradation when moving large files around my phone unless I clear all app usage and even then it can still create artifacts, and take a long time.

SD slot because the service in my area is garbage and I could never count on cloud storage that will also inevitably grow as I age. Plus sailing.

The moto being an LCD is pretty much a deal breaker for me. The 5V isn’t available here. The 1V is the only thing that checks every box, but the price is exorbant, the lack of wifi calling, bad auto photo mode, questionable durability, poor software support, lack of in depth reviews, and the general mystery surrounding the Sony software and UI makes me extremely hesitant for what I intend to be at least a 5 year phone.

I’m probably going to bite the bullet and get the Sony, but I’m still just so frustrated with the phone market. I keep getting the same responses from people like: “I just pay $5 a month for 500G”.

LIKE YOU REALIZE THAT THOSE HIGH RES CAMERAS YOU PAID A PREMIUM FOR ARE GOING TO CREATE LARGER FILES RIGHT? WHEN YOU RUN OUT OF THE 500G YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY $15 FOR THE NEXT TIER, EVERY MONTH, UNTIL YOU RUN OUT OF SPACE, WHICH WILL HAPPEN FAST WHEN YOUR 1 HOUR 4K 120FPS AI EFFECTS EDITED VIDEOS OF YOUR NEWBORNS BIRTH TAKE UP 20G, AND THEN IF YOU CANT AFFORD IT THEN YOUR CHERISHED MEMORIES WILL BE HELD HOSTAGE UNTIL YOU CAN PAY THE FEE TO STORE THEM, WHERE? ON A GODDAMN MEMORY CARD.

You know how every streaming provider is jacking their prices because people are hooked on their platform? That’s what companies will be doing with your cherished memories within the next 2 years.

Sorry for the rant. I’m a little high. Appreciate the suggestions buddy!

  • I’m desperately trying to find a new phone that isn’t a Samsung. I switched by force from LG to Samsung and even though the Samsung was 3 years newer, it was a downgrade.

It pushes so many notifications I have given up. I’m going to have to spend $1400 on a Sony just to retain my SD card slot and get rid of the bloatware.

Since starting my hunt, my garbage s20 is pushing so many s24 ads. Guess how many phones have an SD card slot and a FHD+ screen?

Nine. 4 of them are made by Sony.

Edit: I forgot to mention that my samsung phone also gave me a notification Ad for the S24. I didn’t think to screenshot it because my notifications are so aggressive that I have become brain dead to this bullshit. I can clear a wall of 15 and within 3 minutes have another wall of 10.

  • Your friends were so stupid on ketamine that they needed a babysitter.

Let me just point out a few things. You could have said “in that case, all drugs make you stupid” which would have been totally valid. You could have said “at the dosage necessary to incapacitate someone, of course they would be stupid”, which of course is valid.

The whole point of my very first comment was to poke at people who love ketamine, and also those who read studies about ketamine and proceed to spread it like gospel.

There isn’t a recreational drug that exists that makes anyone temporarily smarter. They all make us temporarily more stupid. For some reason drug users get real uppity when you point that out, especially about their drug of choice. That’s not to say that something can’t be taken from the experience that helps someone, or that might inherently make them smarter or self aware. I was just simply stating that when on that drug, you are more stupid. I think that’s a lesson that a lot of drug users should be more aware of.

I’ve seen a lot of dumb shit happen because someone was mislead about a drugs effects. Hell, I have some K in a stash right now, but let’s not misguide people into thinking they will just be coherent floating brains. They may also be floppy dumb messes that may need babysitting for 45 minutes. Will they be just as smart afterward? Probably. But for those 45 minutes they are going to be stupid.

Good on you for being a trip sitter. You’re good people. People deserve to try drugs in a safe manner and that’s what leads to good experiences. Those good experiences are what those stupid people deserve.
