Everyone should read The Jungle by Upton Sinclair.
It was written almost 120 years ago, and shows just how horrendous these working conditions used to be before the FDA existed. Everyone who wants to cripple the ability of the FDA to regulate these plants wants those kinds of inhumane working conditions back.
It has a socialist message in the second half, but remember - socialism doesn’t replace democracy. Socialism replaces Capitalism.
Almost like ruffling feathers is the point when you truly believe most people are being murderers. You don’t change society by being polite.
I mean, you can do both. They’re not mutually exclusive.
Is “meatie” or “carnist” really a slur though? Those seem benign at worst and mildly accurate at best. Who is throwing a fit over that?
“No no, you have to protect the feelings of “meat eaters” and “carnivores” by using the full word.” ??? Like… why is this the hill people die on?
I agree that feeding a cat a vegan or vegetarian diet is still animal abuse, though. They’re not omnivores like us. They’re obligate carnivores, and pretending they’re not is abusive.
Well, do you like everyone you meet? Why expect everyone else to?
You can make the world’s best apple pie and there are still people who don’t like apples. That’s not a flaw of the pie or them. That’s just life.
I wouldn’t say you get over it, more that you get used to it and realize that it’s not (always) about you.
So yes, I’ll concede he is making plans to leave the country
I had considered editing my comment to reflect the fact that he did not make plans to leave.
You don’t get to have it both ways. How you’re unable to discern that is too much for my brain. Have a good day.
You admit he’s a liar, and that he’s making plans on leaving the country so why trust him when he says WHY he says he’s making those plans? Again, he’s a convicted felon who has yet to be sentenced. For being a stickler on ‘context’, you seem to be ignoring that part.
Also, are you going to edit your initial comment to admit that he did make plans to leave the country now that you conceded he did?
You claimed he never made plans to leave the country, so I posted his exact quote where he makes plans to leave the country and now you’re claiming I’m misquoting him?
He’s a convicted felon who has yet to be sentenced making plans to leave the country. Why didn’t you mention that in your list of other factors and context we could be talking about?
*in another country *if he loses the election
That’s fleeing.
“If something happens with this election, which would be a horror show, we’ll meet the next time in Venezuela, because it’ll be a far safer place to meet than our country,” Trump said to Musk.
#“OK, so we’ll go. You and I will go, and we’ll have a meeting and dinner in Venezuela.”
Cut this shit out, dude. He said it.
Except everyone is a sinner by default, so what’s the downside? That’s the problem with these “temptation” parables. Nothing Johnny could do himself would ever avoid that fate, so why act like it?
It took me way too long to realize this was supposed to be a joke because Hg is the chemical symbol for Mercury. Such an easy thing to mishear.
Unfortunately, in a lot of these cases, they’re treating people poorly because they either expect to be or think they deserve to be treated like that too. They justify their self-hatred by projecting it onto other people.
The answer you’ll hear is, “Well, no, but SOMEONE has to tell them the truth.”
I was more commenting on how even the “normal” part of the story was weird. He didn’t even get a few sentences in before it felt wonky, and went off the rails from there.
E: If this random woman hit the bear, talked to him, let him load it up, and then saw the exact same bear show up in Central Park, wouldn’t she have reported that? If she wasn’t there, how did he know her gender? Neither of those stories make sense to me.
Yeah, it just seemed weird that he said “I pulled over” and “I put it in the back of my van” if she was there too.
Then again, he does have brain worms so… /Shrug
How did he know “the person who hit and killed the bear” was a woman?
“Thoughts and prayers”
