Firefox has been as fast as chrome on most websites for some years now. Chrome was quick a decade ago, not anymore…
The EU is rapidly becoming a neoliberal hellehole resembling the US. I no longer have any hope for existing institutions resisting corporate encroachment. Best that can be done is the support of initiatives like the fediverse and foss in general but if the current trend continues even that is in a precarious position.
Oxygen not included
The thing with anything these corpos are doing is that it suddenly becomes a cultural trend for the next week or so, and every techbro and marketbro talks about it all the time. I have been trying to distance myself from this bullshit for a while now but it I find it impossible to do so. Even here we constantly talk about these idiots. No matter how much we make jokes out of them, simply coming in contact with the shit these billionaires have in their heads is indeed depressing. These people are the ruling class of the entire humanity and the best they can do for culture is idiotic social media platforms and ads.
Stupidity and greed, a great combination!
Have been using Antennapod on Android for some months now. It is by far the best app I have used. Feature rich and no ads is the best one can hope for.
Also nukes
I tried lemmur on fdroid but I think it’s dead. Hasn’t received updates in months and will not load anything.
This is true. Leave the corporate to themselves and preserve the community.
Reddit has a ton of useful knowledge on it, why would I avoid it? It is not just a platform to doomscroll on… As a social media platform it’s as good as dead for me, but it is still a hyper forum with many worthwhile communities.
If they somehow manage to block universal access to the vast knowledge reddit has accumulated over the years, especially for technical stuff, it will be a tragedy. I have learned so much on that website…
It is extremely impressive how much money these large tech companies throw at an app and it turns out to be shitty as fuck. I wonder what bullshit features they pack in to make it like that.
My personal favorite trilogy is His Dark Materials from Philip Pullman. It is somewhat forgotten these days but they are excellent in every meaning of the word.
Probably but it does need an investment in time that I don’t have right now.
It is in my plans to switch to Debian from Ubuntu but it’s quite the scary thought.
As a non technical user that has switched to Ubuntu from Windows, Linux is light years ahead. Any os without a decent package manager like apt or flatpak is unusable for me and that’s without mentioning the ads…
It is the only natural conclusion of the market economy and societies that use it. Just check what is happening to democratic institutions globally. :)
Just a headless raspberry pi 4 with an external hdd that hosts a nextcloud instance, a website and jellyfin. Cloudflare tunnel because a static ip is too expensive and cloudflare for the domain, apache for the server. I have no background on anything computer related and am thus very proud of my achievement 😛. Also, no backup solution yet since I had no time to set it up but am working on it right now.
