Second, yes ofc it’s politics. Nobody is disagreeing on that.
Third even in Europe this is becoming a problem even if the inequality gap doesn’t grow as fast
JimmyMcGill@lemmy.worldto Work Reform@lemmy.world•Bernie Sanders says that if AI makes us so productive, we should get a 4-day work week1·14 days agoYes new jobs will be created but more and more wealth is concentrated at the top
It’s not the apocalypse but it’s also not not bad in many ways.
Technological progress should only be a good thing but in a capitalist society like ours it has a lot of downsides too (for the majority of the population ofc)
JimmyMcGill@lemmy.worldto Work Reform@lemmy.world•Bernie Sanders says that if AI makes us so productive, we should get a 4-day work week1·16 days agoSupposedly
But things need to become real bad
JimmyMcGill@lemmy.worldto Work Reform@lemmy.world•Bernie Sanders says that if AI makes us so productive, we should get a 4-day work week3·16 days agoNobody is arguing that technology won’t progress. Even Marx defends that as a precondition for socialism/communism.
The question is the following. Tomorrow a ground breaking technology is developed that makes literally everyone twice as productive. (Please let’s ignore the technical aspect of this. I’m simplifying for the sake of the argument, but this is happening at some paces everywhere).
Now you have 3 options:
- Everyone can just work half the time for the same productivity. I.e. the economy can sustain itself with people just working less (which is a MAJOR quality of life increase).
- Everyone works the same amount of time but their salaries double.
- Everyone works the same amount of time. Their salaries increase a small %, perhaps keeping up with inflation, perhaps a tiny bit more than that, sometimes even not keeping up with inflation. The added productivity results in increased wealth aggregation at the top.
Number 1 is what people are talking about in this thread.
Number 2 won’t happen because salaries aren’t actually tied to productivity. Productivity just sets a higher limit on salary that in any case is never reached. The salaries are actually determined by competition between workers.
Number 3. Has been happening since the seventies and will continue to happen.
Try installing nvidia drivers on Linux and then report back in a few days
Windows is shit but it’s more convenient and reliable and works way more easily out of the box for 99% of people. This is not even debatable
And for the record I use all 3 major OSs. They all have their uses and Linux is great for a lot of shit but you 100% have to thinker with it way more than with other OSs.
WiFi performance is iffy, same with Bluetooth. We have a ton of data from the company I work it so it’s not even just 1 machine. It’s a few dozen.
Because for the majority of people the experience is reversed
I’ve never had WiFi drivers just broke in my windows laptop out of the blue. With Linux that happened more than once. And having your wifi drivers break when you are not at home is super annoying to deal with because you can’t get to the usual fix.
Because they only want validation

They’d get proper fucked. I mean we all would but they’d have no chance.
They play that card because it’s the only card they have and because Europe is happy with the status quo
Trump was trying to fleece Ukraine for parts and Europe did fuck all
JimmyMcGill@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•US pulls out of formal peace talks between Ukraine and RussiaEnglish512·2 months agoSee my other comment.
Russia can’t even conquer Ukraine after 3 years. They are only a bully to the little guys.
Europe could easily demolish Russia and their old and tired military. I’m not saying that europe should invade Russia. Ofc not. But this Putin bluff is long gone. And ofc it’s Russia that can end this anytime they want but until they are forced to they won’t. Which bully do you know that returned the lunch money that they stole out of what? Compassion? Just because it’s wrong?
And you are talking about WW3 but the EU is planning to triple their defence budget in preparation for war, so you tell me who wants WW3
JimmyMcGill@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•US pulls out of formal peace talks between Ukraine and RussiaEnglish71·2 months agoThe EU needs to put actual restrictions on Russia, Russian oligarchs and Russian allies/goods, not just a not even fully opaque curtain that is easily circumvented like it is atm (even by EU members).
They also need to properly support Ukraine’s military so that they can repel Russian troops back to Ukraine’s borders instead of just giving them enough ammo and guns that will allow them to continue this war of attrition. Maybe they could use all the resources that Germany sends to Israel for example.
And then they need to do what was said above. Actually come to the table with Russia and negotiate the end of the war.
But atm that isn’t possible because Russia is not being forced to. They made their ground and ofc aren’t keen on giving it back and Ukraine is also not willing to give part of the country to Russia (as they shouldn’t). And the EU politicians are happy to be profiting of this war and shift their economies to war economies in order to fill their pockets further.
We haven’t done shit for climate change and it’s not even being discussed anymore. And it will only get worse.
JimmyMcGill@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•US pulls out of formal peace talks between Ukraine and RussiaEnglish321·2 months agoNo
The EU will continue funding Ukraine’s war, allowing thousands of people to die on both sides of the war. And they’ll slowly ease on Russian restrictions if they feel like they need it for economic growth.
The EU could force Russia’s hand and end this war but it doesn’t seem like they want to

Thank you for sharing this I’m as atheist as can be and I don’t really have a good view of the Catholic Church (or most churches) in general for obvious reasons but this pope was indeed better than the ones before him and that was a good moment from him
The “my company works with bitbucket or gitlab”.
I’m the release manager for my company. I’d have so many fucking contributions 😅
JimmyMcGill@lemmy.worldto Nintendo@lemmy.world•Nintendo pulls Switch 2 pre-orders in US over Trump tariffsEnglish131·3 months agoI mean yes??
Also if you don’t buy Nintendo exclusives why do you even want a switch?
Just the savings on cost of games will make it more than worth it.
Plus you get to actually keep your games and play them in the next iterations and even on a pc or laptop if you have them.
You can buy tons of great games for ridiculously low costs, especially if you want a day or two

Honestly the steam deck is much better in anyway

An upward increase makes sense only because corporations will try to squeeze every possible cent from consumer. That’s the only justification that they need
JimmyMcGill@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Are Nintendo's $80 online game prices a result of tariffs or is Nintendo just using them as an excuse to price gouge as corporations do?141·3 months agoGames don’t cost 90$ today for other platforms tho… even Nintendo that are a few years old still cost basically the same as at launch
Let’s see
I’m sure he will have basically only far right policies but he will call himself and the party “centrist” so I wouldn’t be surprised if some low information Dems fell for it as well
