As in between them ? Not something I do enough to care about, and I use Zen and Betterbird, Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V, but I just selected something from Zen and dropped it into a new message in Betterbird without issue…KDE FWIW. There are still some rough edges with flatpak and wayland, but they’re mostly smoothed now. It’s usually permissions (KeepassXC and firefox is a bitch for example, but doable).
Yup, you can just do your Arch (or other distro-hopping) stuff in a distrobox if you want. Break it, blow it away and start fresh, uBlue don’t care… Switch DEs, that’s a one liner (although Gnome and KDE still don’t play well together, so use a fresh user). What’s not to love?
Experienced here, did my time in Arch, learned a lot, perhaps even more than necessary, now retired to Fedora, then Bazzite and Aurora-dev. It just gets out of my way nicely. Something, something, Bell curve meme, plateau of enlightenment meme.
And I would absolutely recommend Arch to a technically competent gamer newcomer as the fastest way to get up to speed.

Seconded, have long considered sub-critical neuron monitoring a really good in to ‘thought control’ without the privacy complications. No thanks neuorolink, stay out of my head (at least for many years until the implications and side effects shake out, fMRI also spooks me) but I’m fine with wrists and perhaps voicebox (ala firefox ), you know, voluntary stuff. What are the odds they’ve locked it up in patents and it’s now a tech dead end for the next decade or two…?
Well said, and you’re right, it’s not hopeless. Most people don’t need the latest superphone, personally I want to carry around a good music device, that I can read books on, and preferably have maps. Many like cameras, but I like the idea of a devoted one. The communications (/surveillance) device is a separate thing and perhaps we should think seriously about breaking these things apart, hotspot that you turn on when needed for example. How about a nice general purpose pocketable linux gadget and a secure simple telecom to give it a connection?

I like my qudelix-5k, does flawless 96Khz/32bit LDAC to my Pixel7 (not that I use media that high, but it works well). Balanced output, onboard equalizer, it’s a good usb DAC as well., been solid for 2 years+, goes great with IEMs. It’s a bit pricey and likely to be a pain when I have to go in to replace the battery, but I find myself charging ~ weekly, so Li-ion is good for ~ 1000 charges, perhaps 500 before significant degradation, which is 10 yrs or so. Worth it for my use case.
Also it’s martial, not marshal, which is reasonably important as martial means pertaining to war, i.e. the army running things.
Automated rotation of a large music library on a weekly basis via syncthing, I prefer an offline solution, (but navidrome is there if needed) ~150Gb containing all my playlists and a random selection of other albums keeps me well stocked with old and new. That leaves plenty for taking photos / video (which all gets backed to immich anyway). I don’t consume video on tiny screens. 256Gb is plenty for me with this system, 128 would probably do fine.
I am however thinking of hacking together a RasPi type device with a nvme drive, good audio and a backlit ePaper screen and perhaps GPS (music, books and maps covers 85+% of my use case, a standalone camera would get another 10+% ) which would reduce my need for a personal surveillance device being on significantly. Project suggestions gratefully received.
If you’re thinking like that, consider a second hand Pixel 8(a) GrapheneOS and 7 years of security updates… Zero crapware. I combine it with a Qudelix-5K which gets me back a very high fidelity (48/96 Khz 32bit) audio jack via bluetooth.
At that level (of age), choices come into play.
The usual paradigm for dev estimates is double the number, bump the units.

Feels like they’re testing the waters with Halo, hopefully a loud ‘waters great, dive in’ signal gets through and we get something a bit fitter for desktop use, maybe with more memory (and bandwidth) next gen. Still, gotta love the power usage, makes for one hell of a NAS / AI inference server (and inference isn’t that fussy about PCIe bandwidth, hell eGPU works fine as long as the model / expert fits in VRAM.
Pretty sure that’s a x4 PCIe slot (admittedly PCIe 5x4, but not many video cards speak PCIe5), would totally trade a usb4 for a x8, but these laptop chips are pretty constrained lanes wise.
You are not wrong. The beauty is NMS is owner run, no investors ‘making it better’, likely to keep being good jut coz they like doing it.
Historically unpaid commute originated before urban sprawl, car culture and a massive spike in population, it’s been grandfathered in, but it’s absolutely theft in the current environment, whether the job can be done at home or not. Posit 1 hr commute either way, that’s 10hrs a week, and should probably get hazard loading as well. When unpaid commute originated it was more like 10-15 minutes walk per day.
One of the most significant and efficient policy changes to combat CO2 and other pollutants would be to legislate paid commuting (with just protection against discrimination for both employee and employer). Just watch every employer WFH everyone who can doing the obvious, not to mention improved quality of life, local services and being hugely popular. Expect one hell of a fight.
And Elite Dangerous has had fans wanting walkable ship interiors for a decade or so. NMS ‘here you go and craft your own ship to boot’ ! There’s been rather a lot of cross-pollination between the two, but this round goes to NMS by landslide, assuming it works as advertised, and sight unseen I’ll assume so given past efforts. NMS, the game that keeps giving.
Attaching files from Dolphin to mail just works as Drag and Drop (gives you the choice of inline or attachment for images, cool, did not know that). Not sure for firefox, would need a target, but there’s always right click, copy location, paste into any file chooser.
