Thanks will check that out 👍
Old & Deaf, but still not dead 🤣 Far too much sport for my age. Arch Linux user, and now Debian for a HomeAssitant setup. Open source user where possible, computers and gadgets to keep me occupied & thinking. https://www.minty95.com
Thanks will check that out 👍
I’m going to do the same later this year as like you my setup is 10 years plus, though I’ll re-install Arch again What MB, GPU card etc did you buy? , as I’m out of touch with the latest equipment now, so would be grateful for a heads up
Until a couple of days yi would have said Liftoff but I must admit Boost seems slightly better, the pro version, the free version with ads is awful, but at only 3.50 euros that’s not expensive and worth the money
I’m running a Debian Bookworm on a Zotac Tiny PC, plus Docker and Mosquitto with HomeAssitant supervisor installed and a Sonoff usb dongle P. No ZigBee2MQTT. To begin with the Dongle was recognised by HA, natively running ZHA, all worked okay. Then I added ZigBee2MQTT as a add-on in HA, linked it to my Mosquitto account, added MQTT as an add-on as you need it as well. The difference is enormous, as I now have a ZigBee Dashboard, many more options were seen by the ZigBee2MQTT on the devices that I had installed that weren’t seen by the ZHA, I was even able to update certain firmware on my switches.
I’ve used Joplin for years now before was Evernote. I like it because it’s open source and the syncing option is built in, exemple either to Dropbox or NextCloud (I use both these options, DB only because I have a free option of 12gB otherwise I would use just NC) The syncing is painless as as I said built-in. It’s not a pretty app, fairly plain, but it works perfectly, on my android and Linix PCs, Arch and Debian. I did try Obsidian once. It’s pretty, but not being open source put me of. Try it again, takes minutes to set up, as again open source and works well
Thanks, I thought so, but preferred to ask. Thrn yes much better than a Pi and if yours is like mine then not much bigger
First dopey question, what is a NUC? It’s probably a computer but? If so same’ish story here went from a Pi4 to a Lenovo Tiny PC (reconditioned from Amazon at 100 euros) then sold the raspberry for 65 euros 🤣 Far faster and better, installed Debian Bookworm, Docker and then did a new Mosquitto and HA supervisor installation. Far better 👍
I don’t use Trillium, tried once Obsidian but it’s not free. Have you tried Joplin, it’s free works extremely well with Dropbox or NextCloud for syncing between téléphone and the PC. For note taking its extremely good
Diaro sends me a notification and the end of the Day, reminding me to write something.
I keep a diary using Diaro on my android phone. I started a long time ago in note books, but as even I can’t alway read my own writing, switched to typing. I don’t write much, mostly rubbish, what I do find useful is the ability to search and find things, ‘repaired the fridge’ ‘changed the battery in the smoke alarm’, ‘had so and so around for dinner’ , ‘bought this and that’ … It’s only for myself, do when I’m dead and gone it will just disappear like myself
No I do not see that as a problem. I think, seeing some of their clients that it’s a reliable company
After reading what you wrote and as I have time, being retired… thought I’d look at what you suggested, so now I have Duckdns & WireGuard setup as well, it’s no where as easy as Tailscale. So I wrote a post, rather long 😭 on my blog about setting it up https://www.minty95.com/remote-access-home-assistant-from-your-phone/ Maybe it will help others save time. Thanks for giving me the idea to look into it 👍
Garmin Epix Pro gen 2, by far the best, as like the 7x but with an OLED screen. A real fitness watch, rather than a apple smart watch
Installation was a breeze, far far easier than wireguard with duckdns. (which I have now just done as well) But can’t you add it to HA as a add-on?
They often do some promotions, got mine at about half price
I use NordVPN, works well with Arch, no gui just terminal, only about three times to get it logged, to the country you want to use, and running
I set up WireGuard this morning, but it’s far ‘harder’ than Tailscale. So now I have both working. 😁
Okay, at least that gives me an idea, thanks
