Sure. Could happen. Imagine trump wins somehow. Then imagine he orders the military to help the Russians or even just orders some people round up like he promises. His disdain for our military is clear. Some generals will follow because he is the president. But others will refuse. And Trump is dumb enough to order his generals to arrest the other generals. Boom, civil war. Or if trump loses… his followers will look for someone else to follow. If someone actually competent shows up, similar path, just 4 years later.

So any background on what the cops knew at the time? It says the car was reported to have been involved in a shooting at a school… but no gus were found and it was night I think. Also I have heard others say (but haven’t seen in an article) that the car was stolen and the guy who died had a rap sheet. I doubt the cops knew who he was, but they might have known the car was stolen. But if they knew none of these things, that would be a pretty stark picture.

Let’s all take a moment to not at the bottom of the article that it says since 1990 only 83 people have died in such incidents. That is a goal the US could never hope to achieve in my lifetime.

Well last century is the was the black panthers… and that lead to gun control by a republican governor. So… how about a mix and black and white people on patrol to see if we can scare them into wanting gun control.

What would actually happen if there was $100,000 of damage or more to like 100,000 houses in that area. FEMA only pays less than $50k. And according to the studies they always talk about, most people don’t have $50k to fix their house. Would they just be homeless? The mold growth from all that water would make the houses unlivable.

Here is a bit of a different take. The entire economy is based on businesses taking risk. Every start up is a risk, and the majority fail. But that is what you have to do in business to get ahead. Now translate that to something like flood insurance. Would a sartup business pay for that if it wasn’t required. No way. They would say if it happens the business just fails. So costs and pay are based on the same concept. Some people would end up destitute in retirement if they paid for all the insurance they should have.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Insurance shouldn’t be a for profit business.

For private insurance, the key is “to stay in business with huge profits” for the gov version, it’s politics of course, which you point out. They could easily fund it.
