I think upgrading the RAM as you mentioned is going to make a big difference. While the physical RAM might be soldered to the motherboard, you could buy a fairly cheap SD card or USB and set the system up to use that as virtual memory. It won’t be as fast as actual RAM but it might help and large SD cards are honestly really cheap these days.
I dunno how it is in the rest of Canada, but here in Ontario, the Conservatives are constantly undermining the public healthcare system because they very clearly want to privatize it. It’s really annoying how they’re trying to slyly erode faith in the public system and letting people fall through the cracks for no reason other than greed. It’s blatant to anyone paying attention, but sadly, most people aren’t.
I would use Heroic Games Launcher personally. You can add any game you want, and before it creates the prefix for you, you have the option of running installers on the prefix first. Then you can add the game executable. If the game requires proton fixes which it very likely would, you can search the game on SteamDB to find the AppID then make sure there’s a file called steam_appid.txt next to the game executable with the game’s app ID from SteamDB. That will tell Proton to apply any fixes that it has on file automatically.
If you’re a fairly advanced user, you can also just look at what files are included on the game’s SteamDB “Depots” page. For example, GTA San Andreas looks like it requires “DirectX Jun 2010 Redist”. You can either download that from Microsoft or you can run winetricks (through Heroic, or through terminal) on the prefix to add d3dx9.

First of all, make sure that Steamworks Common Redistributables is installed because according to the steamdb page for GTA 5 it requires vcrun2022 and d3dx9 installed from winetricks (or protontricks) which it normally gets from the Steamworks Common Redistributables automatically.
From my admittedly very brief research, it doesn’t look like you can play GTA 5 online if you skip the launcher but if you want to just play offline you can set your Steam Launch Options by right clicking the game and going to properties. If you set it to command% -scOfflineOnly that will skip the launcher but disable multiplayer.
You can also try setting the Steam Launch Options to PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% which forces Proton to use the OpenGL driver rather than the Vulkan driver for D3D.
I was also kind of surprised when looking under the hood of proton that a lot of the fixes for games are pretty simple and often the same fix over and over again. Also, it’s just basically running winetricks on the prefix to install things like vcrun2022 (Visual C++ runtime) and dotnet48 (.NET runtime). It’s pretty simple stuff, really, but priceless when considering that no manual tinkering is required by the average user who would give up as soon as a game doesn’t launch once.
Oh, also I should point out that if you want proton to run non-steam games but for it to run protontricks to fix any compatibility issues, just make sure that there’s a text file called steam_appid.txt in the same directory as the game executable. The file should contain only the game’s app id which you can find on https://steamdb.info/
My partner likes to listen to lofi music. Lately she’s been obsessed with Baldur’s Gate 3 so she plays a youtube video that’s 10 hours of the “down by the river” song and a campfire sound from BG3. We’ve also done a 10 hour Star Trek TNG bridge noises video before for awhile lol

YouTube throttles some of the more popular instances. Find a less popular one. I was also finding that thumbnails and subtitles weren’t loading on some instances. After switching to a fairly obscure one, everything works. You could also try piped which I find generally works better and I like the interface better.
The only thing that’s different between Chrome and Firefox for the average user is that WebGL doesn’t work (yet) in Firefox, which I know is technical, but it means some websites that need more graphics processing won’t work in Firefox. Since WebGL is fairly new, I haven’t run across it much, only once or twice.

I’d say Israel and Palestine were already at like stage 6 before this, now it’s at like stage 8. It’s not clear if Israel actually plans on exterminating all Palestinians, but it sure seems like that’s where they’re leading things.
All part of the plan to erode trust in public healthcare so they can institute private healthcare and be hailed as heroes even though they destroyed a perfectly good system to replace it with the nightmare dystopia that our neighbours to the south have to live in.

The biggest take away that people who don’t feel like watching should know is that 99% of all nuclear waste actually decays to a completely inert state in 31 years or less. Plus, the amount of nuclear fuel used in every nuclear plant in the entire world since the beginning is a tiny, tiny amount and only about 1% of that will be potentially dangerous longer than 31 years. The 1% of spent fuel that is dangerous long-term could easily be stored in probably just one single deep storage facility where it’s stored safely kilometers under the Earth’s crust in a geologically stable region forever.
Storage of nuclear waste is a solved problem. The only thing holding the experts back from doing the correct thing with nuclear waste is public perception and unfounded laws forbidding it because of propaganda and scare tactics. There has NEVER been a single incident relating to improper storage of nuclear materials. But there have been loads and loads of incidents involving improper storage of oil, gas, and coal materials.
Nuclear is so, so, SO much safer and cleaner than oil, gas, and coal.
You’re assuming that physics would be the same in every other universe. Physics works the way it does in our universe largely because of constants, but we don’t know why many of these constants exist and we probably never will. The idea of a god creating out universe seems like an obvious explanation, but more likely it’s survivor bias. Specifically, the idea that since we happen to live in a universe where everything is just right and so we look at that as a miracle and probably planned. In reality, it’s more likely that there are actually an infinite number of universes with different physics where life is impossible, but that means that even if less than 1% of all of those infinite universes is able to support life, there are still so, so many universes in which it was. Many of them being nearly identical to our own, and many of them being so strange and alien that we probably couldn’t even wrap our heads around the strangeness even if we had an eternity to study them.
Do you think using a custom ssh key directory would prevent these malicious apps from working correctly or is there some environment variable that always points to the ssh key folder or I guess they could just run a search on the system for any files like *.pub. Are there any safety procedures that one can take to circumvent these kinds of attacks?
Just for some pretext here: I’m not trying to defend this woman because I know nothing about her.
That being said and just for everyone’s information, there is a scenario in which what she said is logical and fair.
It used to be that women were not allowed to have careers and some people still choose to practice that. So the women agree when entering into the marriage that they’ll be homemakers and the husband will earn money and take care of her. If the husband doesn’t keep up his end of the duties in that arrangement and they wind up being divorced then she now has no means to provide for herself. This is why alimony was initially created, so that women who were forced (or in the modern day chose) to be homemakers weren’t absolutely fucked in the case of divorce.
Again, I’m not saying that’s what’s happening here, I have no idea, but I just wanted to provide some potential context because I find a lot of talk about alimony and divorce online often just dumps on women as being greedy and that’s just not fair in every situation.
I gotta say though, it sure looks that way in this situation, especially with her talking about cheating on her husband, but again, who knows, maybe he’s not holding up his end, maybe he’s physically or emotionally abusive, we just don’t know.
