TehBamski@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•what’s the difference between “he died” and “he’s dead”?English33·1 month agoIt has to do with Verb Tense.
In your example, “I thought he died,” that would mean you thought he had died in the past.
“I thought he was dead” would mean that you thought he had died recently or in this situation, in the present time.
I read this very much like it was a comment on !outside@lemmyworld.com, and it added to the overall read.
TehBamski@lemmy.worldto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Maybe Trump's Presidency Will Make Everything So Awful It Will Facilitate Actual Positive Change NationwideEnglish10·2 months agoI understand your perspective and agree that it would be best to do the following.
But you gotta understand how it feels for most Millennials.
What’s not included in this meme are: USA’s Unjustified involvement in two Middle East countries with our armed forces and bombs, 1 Trillion dollars collectively “spent” on those two involvements, “Resurfacing” of mass racism, Mass false news/information, The never ending inflation of everything, and the lie that if we all went to college and got a degree, that everything would be alright later on. (Let me know if I missed any.)
So yes, giving up hope is not wise. But nor is letting us live our lives as if this isn’t some of the most corrupt, asinine, ‘fight amongst yourselves while we the ultra rich keep taking from you in any way we can,’ period of time.

Today at work, I needed to make some orange jello that would be poured over mandarin oranges in small meal cups with plastic lids. Well, yea boi, read the instructions three times to make sure to not mess it up like I have done before in the past. (Too much water ain’t good for jello setting.) Well wouldn’t you believe it. Yea boi messed up. It calls for 2 litters of very hot water and to add two cold liters of water after mixing in the jello powder. I still don’t understand how I fucked this up. Like really. I. Have. No. Idea. Why my brain blocked/jumped to accepting that 34 Fl. Oz. was two liters of water per batch. …Which means that I only made each package with 3 liters of water… I didn’t realize this was the case until I was finishing up making the last package (out of 7) of jello mix to pour. (fml.)

I believe you meant that you have an internet speed of 81 MegaBytes vs 81 Megabits.
From back in the day, there was a settings section for limiting your download/upload speeds, to make sure you didn’t max out your data cap/plan. I would suggest looking into that to make sure you’re not self-capping your DLs.
Also check to make sure that your ISP isn’t throttling your internet connection after you hit a certain amount of data. Look at the contract you have with them.
But like others have said, it could be a list of other reasons.
Edit: Just thought about it. Make sure that you’re connected with a Cat 5e ethernet cable or higher. You might be limiting yourself through your hardware.
If you need to get a newer ethernet cable, I highly recommend Monoprice.com as a place to buy online. Far more often, I have found that they have better prices (even after shipping,) and a wider selection of things than Newegg or Amazon for that matter.
Expectations are one of the biggest pitfalls for me. Whether they be mine, a friend/family member, a work manager, coworker, or sometimes others. It gets to me and can make me feel very frustrated and/or overwhelmed.
It’s been a loooonnnngggg journey for me to better understand that this is one of my triggers and how to best prevent it and work with it when it happens. (It’s not pretty at times but showing up to fight the good fight is better than cowering to it IMO.)

The only times I’ve really used Amazon in the past have been for PC parts, audio headphones, and a random thing or two. I do my absolute best not to buy needless things as it is, and I know that there are plenty of other websites to use if I really need to get something online. (I knew this was gonna come in handy one day ha.) Here’s a website called amazonalts.org. It’s curated websites/online stores for the ethical consumer in mind. The categories are Food, Home, Clothes, Beauty, Books, Electronics, and Miscellaneous.

A few things to comment on.
| I didn’t get an iPhone until 2021 or so and all of my android phones before then ran slow in a year or so.
Like your computer, smartphones slow down when you have a lot of things running/idling in the background. They also slow down with bloatware. Cleaning your phone’s memory every so often is a smart practice to incorporate into your ownership of the device. CCleaner is the one I download every so often to do a scan and clean what I can. There’s bound to be a better app option, but that’s the one I know about and have used before.
And just so we’re on the same page, I bought a refurbished Pixel 2 back in early 2020 and it’s been running fine for me. Haven’t noticed any issues with operations except for the screen and the battery not holding its charge as long as it once did. But to be fair, my screen has a few hairpin cracks in it from dropping it on accident a couple of times. And the battery hold on any smartphone degrades with age and usage.
| That never happened with my iPhones.
You’re either super lucky or you’re the kind of person that gets a new smartphone every year or so; for some reason or another.
As I mentioned above, smartphones naturally and unnaturally get slower as they age. But let’s not forget that planned obsolescence is very much being used across the board.
What’s the conversion rate of one MeowMeowBeanz to one Schrute buck?
As a recovering karma whore, I can attest to this.

You must survive in there for 1 hours. The catch is, that they will look at you and ask you a lot of questions about computer related things. Often times they will repeat their question moments later.
