Really cool episode, I’m always blown away by the sheer quality of the animation!

How do they keep pumping out such high quality animation week after week?! Fern and Stark dancing together looked so insanely clean! Fantastic episode, Frieren doing a little hop so she could pat Sein on head was so adorable (* ´ ▽ ` *)
Finally! It’s been so long.
That bit cracked me up lol , reactions from Stark and Fern were the cherry on top.
Apothecary diaries has been a pleasant surprise, I’ve been really enjoying it. Same for frieren.
Been also watching Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent second season, season 1 is one of my favorite animes in recent years but season 2 just hasn’t been as engaging, at least so far, I hope it picks up.
Also, this one isn’t an anime but it is animated, Blue eye samurai, highly recommend everyone to check it out, I absolutely loved it and the lack of buzz around it has been really bizarre considering the sheer quality of this show. I’ve heard it has a fantastic Japenese dub if you prefer watching it that way, I saw it in English, stellar performances all around.
There are a couple of scenes, like Frieren getting out of bed, although watching again I’m not entirely sure if it’s rotoscoped or just made using a lot of reference .
This episode almost had me crying, so good! Also, lots of rotoscoping in this episode, looked very lively.
I very highly recommend Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent, I absolutely loved the first season and the second season is currently airing.
I’d also recommend Saint’s magic power is omnipotent, not completely caught up on the second season yet but I absolutely adored the first season.
Why do all the shots of the characters taking off/putting on a piece of clothing look so noticeably good in this anime lol
The new elf seems like Frieren from before Frieren’s time, veteran adventurer who used to be well known but his era has passed, sort of felt like a mirror into Frieren’s future when everyone she knows now has long passed and no one remembers the story of the heroes who defeated the demon lord, kinda sad.
Still feels odd when the elf talk about decades or centuries like it’s barely any time at all.
Are we not doing weekly discussion posts for this show anymore? No post for episode 5 or 6.
Yeah I noticed that too, Fern taking off her robe and throwing it away and Stark putting on his jacket both looked really good, like almost rotoscoped
Yeah took me by surprise too, seems she has zero tolerance for stupidity.
I enjoy that too, really feels like a journey.
Oh no! Another cliffhanger >.>
Kinda wish I had waited until this season was over so I could binge it, I have such little patience, but then I wouldn’t have been able to participate in these discussion threads so I guess it’s not all bad!
though the action is not necessarily my favorite part of Frieren
I’m definitely here more for laid-back chill adventure where i get hit with some heavy emotions every now and then, but I guess a bit of cool action once every couple of episodes is not such a bad thing.
Agree with pretty much everything in your comment, I found this episode to have no emotional weight because of how lacking the second half of the show was. All the emotional trauma and emotional growth that could’ve been explored was completely sidelined for the sake of supernatural fantasy stuff. So many times they would show how Miyo wasn’t able to speak her mind, communicate effectively or stand up for herself and everytime I thought it would lead to some kinda growth or change in Miyo and it never really did.
As for Usuba family, I really hate how the show presented them as secret good guys, that was so weird, maybe a bit out of the left field but it kinda reminded me of wonder woman sleeping with that guy without consent in the second movie, like thats fucked up but the writers clearly don’t seem to recognize it as such. The cousin trying to manipulate Miyo into marrying him and being his obedient housewife who dutifully raises their kids and never ever leaves the house is really really fucked up, but never was it presented as such in the show. The grandpa leaving his poor sick daughter to fend for herself in a shitty abusive relationship and then ignoring his grandkid until her powers manifested was also presented as no biggie, he kinda regrets it so its cool I guess? For a show about a victim of lifelong abuse this show doesn’t seem to recognize what abuse is.
Overall my opinion of the show is it started strong and ended really mediocre, I really didn’t jibe with the second half.
I’m unfamiliar with the light novels so no idea if that is the case, regardless this doesn’t seem like the kinda show that’ll have multiple seasons. Maybe it’ll get more seasons and Miyo will receive all the character development that I’m hoping for but currently I’m not enjoying the show too much.
I didn’t know there was a tournament arc.
