The way Reddit has handled this has been so disappointing. Aaron Swartz been rolling over but man look what Reddit has become. I believe now more than ever that any site that revolves around a community should be in the hands of said community and not corporations or else this eventually happens. Corporations need to produce profit to survive but when we’re talking spaces for open discussion that more often than not works against the very community that makes up the content.
I just started using Bookwyrm. Not the best app ever but it’s federated and relatively new, so I’m giving it time. My wife uses Goodreads with her friends but I don’t want to support Amazon any more than I already do.
What kind of books does she stack the bookshelf with? Or is it even being used for books?
It sounds like there are a number of us who enjoy reading amidst nature, myself included.
Interesting, does reading provide a calming effect or escape from your stress for you?
It does make sense. One thing I like to do is after I read quickly summarize for myself what I just read. Later as I’m returning to the book again I recall/reproduce that summary. that’s been really helpful for me. Also that park looks incredible.
Yeah reading in spare moments is definitely the way to go, can confirm. How come you don’t just bring your ereader everywhere? Or if it’s not actually yours, buy one for yourself?
Yup exactly the same here.
Hah I’ve never heard of someone being a seasonal reader, I like your reason for it!
This sounds just lovely
Your back doesn’t hurt in bed after a while?
Forgot to mention that carrying my ereader around constantly means that idle moments in public end up getting used to advance in the book I’m reading, instead of purposelessly checking my phone or using social media. I think I read a post on here in another thread where someone else has had the same experience.
What happened to the first one?
Nice, yeah I hear Kobo is a pretty great alternative to Amazon and seems to be popular nowadays. If my Kindle broke it’s probably the first brand I’d check out.
What are overdrive books?
Thanks for the comprehensive overview. Yeah color in my ereader is not very personally enticing and I don’t care for an app store, I actually keep my Kindle in airplane mode 24/7 haha.
The water resistance and flush screen sound great though, but nothing I’m rushing to the store for. Think I’ll look for that when my paperwhite dies out which is probably going to be a long time from now unless I damage it.
Interesting, I live in the Bay Area and had never heard of this.
I buy my books from either ebooks or Amazon, then load them on my kindle which I carry everywhere. It’s an old paper white that usually fits into the pocket of whatever jacket I’m wearing.
I like physical books too but I really don’t have the space to be stacking up. I also read a lot in public and don’t like for people to always know what I’m reading lol. Nothing sketch, I’m just a private person.
How come?
