10 months agoI think it’s maybe to add a security layer in the case of crashes but I don’t really know. Simple apps were good since they had the same UI and the transation felt good.

Dialer apps are a mess, waiting for Fossify also here

11·11 months agoYour smartphone is already an always connected device, and you can manually do periodical backups on external drives which is a good practice in any case.
You can also set which device rules the file modification (sent or receive only as a folder).
I think it’s ok for most of the people. If you have a tons of precious files to save I can agree with you, but I think this type of “off-grid self-hosting” is just the future of personal data management.
Don’t forget Syncthing, I always suggest it first since it doesn’t require a server or advanced knowledge to work.
You can selfhost Syncthing without having a server, using your daily devices.
- A good Invidious player with locally stored datas.
- AntennaPod fork with improved local music management (tags).
- A dedicated good PeerTube app.
I’ve installed Flowit, Xeonjia, Parlera and Pirate Solitaire.
I also was an user but Aves Libre is a very good replace if you don’t mind the video editing aspect. But yeah, that app also probably deserve a good fork.
There’re good alternatives for every app, the only real lost are contacts and dialer, imo.

151·1 year agoThis is gold. PeerTube experience is a mess right now, we totally need 2 or 3 big instances like here on Lemmy.
KeePass + Syncthing works also for OTPs (you can even use OTP without a phone).
I remove it time ago since I noticed slowing-down on my Firefox.

It’s a very old purchase, I was an ignorant Windows user at the time. :O
Still have to find an app who can sort albums by year properly (without mess with tags also).
