Why “never support”?

Amazing summary, and I’m glad you mentioned landlords. I am having such a struggle lately when people tell me about their ‘side hustle’ as a landlord, and how they make so much passive income. I just wanna scream “so you feel good about making money doing basically nothing while there are so many people unsheltered, and living paycheck to paycheck?”.

So, what hadn’t clicked until I watch this video, is that federal taxes don’t ‘pay for things’, they are just the mechanism by which federal government ensures the currency has value: They compel us to pay taxes (via courts, police, etc.) and those taxes must be paid in the same currency, and so we have to do work to acquire that currency, and so it has value.

This other video at 29:43 also blew my mind, I just never thought about tax in that way, and it’s embarrassing.

Here’s the definition of default I’m using (from Google):

a preselected option adopted by a computer program or other mechanism when no alternative is specified by the user or programmer. (weird it specifies “a computer program or other mechanism”, but whatever)

My argument is that the default meal including meat is what makes including meat the most popular choice, not the other way around.

If you are ‘pro car’ then you should definitely be resistant to adding lanes (and pro using that money for transit alternatives).

Getting cars off the road is the only thing that’s going to make driving less miserable in the kinds of places were adding lanes is suggested.

Sure, but you could e.g. start with slop and then let people request something different. That’s what I meant by ‘default’. Perhaps there’s a better world?

I sure there’s a fancy word in psychology, but it’s like if everyone is given choice x automatically, then it shouldn’t be a surprise that x seems to be what people prefer.

I’ve noticed a similar thing in the Subway sandwich store: there are approximately the same number of vegetables and meats available, but if you look at the menu there is just one ‘veggie’ option, and a multitude of different meat combinations.

Because humans don’t need meat to survive.

The meals will (I assume) be allocated on inmate numbers, so the animal will be reared, killed, transported, then thrown in the trash because someone doesn’t want to eat it.

More generally this is the weird ‘opt out’ culture of food, where vegan is considered the exceptional position, which is kinda stupid, in my opinion.

My life so far:

1. Be born in UK, be able to work / live anywhere in EU
2. Emigrate to USA to try that for a bit (can always move back to anywhere in EU if I don’t like it!)
3. Brexit
4. Trump
