To OP, I think it would help others to give you advice if you say exactly what sort of plans you had that didn’t work out. Plans not working out come in all shapes and sizes, and advice for one thing doesn’t necessarily apply to another.

If it’s a relationship you seem to desire, then asking for more relationship focused advice may be more fruitful than vaguebooking and not getting much in the way of useful responses.

And then you have some ridiculous retailers that don’t allow you to hold a package for pickup anymore. What the hell happened to that? I feel like it used to be when I had a package that needed a signature I could just request for it to be held at the parcel service center for me to pick it up later.

But the last two times I had a package with a signature required, it wouldn’t allow me to do that. The package was going to be returned to the sender for ridiculous reasons. One was an age restricted item which I can kind of get, but the other wasn’t. Both times I had to beg and plead with the delivery company to hold the parcel even though it was not something they were supposed to do.

And people wonder why Amazon gets so much business. They don’t make me take days off from work so I can hopefully receive a fucking package of the delivery person actually feels like ringing my doorbell.

Never again with packages requiring a signature for me. I don’t work from home and my workplace is not in a location that can receive packages.

I didn’t realize that I had turned it on on my prior phone. Welp, my phone absolutely died one day and would no longer power on. I was really sad about losing my photos and videos, but then when I got my new phone I was happy to find out that at some point I turned on photos cloud backups.

Yeah, I’m with you on that. Everyone on Lemmy loves password managers, but I don’t really like the idea of entrusting all of my passwords for everything with one singular program. I actually also dislike 2 factor authentication. One time my phone broke and my bank wanted to verify my identity to purchase a new phone. Except my phone was broken so I couldn’t… Yeah I really don’t want to run into that scenario again except worse.

I’ve actually gone old school with it and I keep most passwords physically written down in a notebook using my own cypher language/pictograms. If someone irl really wants to break into my home, find the notebook, and try to decode it, I’d be in bigger trouble to begin with. It’s very unlikely.

My mom’s dog goes nuts when she finds tissues coated in boogers in the trashcan or if she finds underwear that has been worn for a day. She acts like she’s at an all you can eat buffet.

I used an android app called “Just Run”. It’s a free couch to 5K app with no ads. Downside is it’s very simple and it only trains you on the length of your runs, not your distance. So I paired it with a cheap smartwatch to figure out how far I was going. I didn’t make it to 5k at the end of the app (altho I was able to run for 30 mins straight like the app trains you), but I continued to run afterwards now only using my smartwatch.

Initially I was going to run more frequently, but through the advice on the app, I found that it’s best to have at least one rest day in between runs. So I run every one to two days ideally unless I have something going on. It feels less pressuring and draining to do that way too.

Initially, my feet and knees (and even a bit of my chest from using my breathing muscles more lol) hurt a lot, but I just went slow and kept at it and eventually my body got used to running and now everything is fine. I do have mild chronic pain in my left foot, but I think it’s unrelated because it started happening before I picked up running.

Maybe a bit tmi, but I always be sure to take a dump in the morning before I go out for a run lol!!

I agree that modern smartphones are too big, but that’s what the vast majority of the options are nowadays. I don’t know if you can call it a “gimmick” anymore if literally all of them are like that. It’s getting harder and harder to find a reasonably sized phone. But believe me, if I didn’t have a folding phone, I’d be looking out for small phones like the Zen phone.

I just have my mail set to silent notifications so I still see if I got an email but it doesn’t interrupt anything.

Modern smartphones are freaking gigantic. Women’s pants pockets are comically tiny. Modern smartphones physically would not fit in the majority of my pants. I bought a Z Flip so I could fit a modern phone in my pants and not be forced to carry around a purse.

The length is important for women’s pants pockets, not necessarily the thickness. It is practical for me. No, it’s not practical for everyone.

This is hardly related to anything at all, but be careful about using your university email as a login for too many things. At least at my university, we only have access to the email for the duration we were in school (and a bit of a grace period afterwards). So afterwards it can be a real pain to switch over a bunch of accounts. And if you forget to switch them over in time you can lose access to them.

What kind of job you work? I hear people talk about having downtime to do nothing all the time on Reddit, but it seems like it’s industry dependent. Ex: in healthcare there often isn’t much in the way of downtime, but many office workers (obviously position dependent…can’t think of specifics now) seem to say they do nothing all day

Really? I hear people say stuff like this all the time, but I have not experienced it at all. Every time I go to a brick and mortar store, I find that the price is still way cheaper when I look up the product on Amazon. Plus many other online stores still have ridiculously long shipping times whereas with Amazon it will sometimes even arrive in less than 24 hours.

I also have always had great experiences with Amazon support for faulty items or in the ease of returning my items.

I bought an item from a different online retailer recently. Took forever, they sent me the wrong item, and they refused to refund my money until it took snail mail to ship it back to them and for it to be restocked in their warehouse (not even an expensive item…$40). I was absolutely pissed about how difficult they made the situation over their own mistake when Amazon has always made it so easy for me.

Another company I purchased from recently required a signature for an item and customer service flat out refused to allow me to hold it for pickup like I normally do for items like that (I didn’t realize signed delivery at home address only was a thing…never had a product like that before). They made it a headache and a half to actually get my item because I work during the day and wouldn’t allow me to have it held to be signed for at a delivery center. If I order something like that from Amazon, they allow delivery to a secure locker so I don’t have to be home during the day to pick up my purchase like I’m some 1950s housewife.

There are other retailers still that are cheaper than Amazon, but you end up waiting a month or more for your items.

I get that Amazon is a morally shitty company, but I just have not found another company with anywhere remotely near the price point, shipping experience, and customer service as them. If someone is able to step up to the plate and do that, I’ll certainly switch to someone more moral.

I will say that I do not use Amazon for used products because you have absolutely zero idea of the condition for them. eBay has always been a far superior experience for that specific type of item because you can actually see what you’re buying.

It’s not going to physically harm you, but if you have IBS, it might cause some discomfort/issues. Caffeine tends to make you need to shit…which can be a pro or con depending on the scenario. You could always try it and see how you feel. If you don’t like how your body reacts to it, there’s not going to be any damage done and you don’t have to do it again.

Yes. The Flip 5 has a different cover screen than the 3. It’s significantly larger. Just look up a a photo comparison of how significantly different they are. Yes, you can run literally any app or APK file from the cover screen on the Flip 5. The ones I use most are Discord, Spotify, YouTube, Google Messages, Voyager, my notes app, and Red Reader (Reddit).

Sometimes they can be a bit buggy or don’t function very well (esp games), so I don’t like using certain apps on the cover screen.

The only caveat is you need to install a free app by Samsung called Good Lock from the Galaxy Store first. Evidently it is not available in certain regions. In these regions, then yes, the cover screen functionality is locked down to only a few approved apps.

Sorry, I didn’t mean you could run full apps on the cover screen of the 3. You can’t really. I mean you technically can, but it doesn’t work well at all because the screen is so tiny and usable.

What I mean was that on the Flip 5 and beyond, you are able to run full apps on the cover screen. It’s not only the Razr that has this functionality.

The annoying thing is that this feature is just not enabled by default. You have to download an extra (free) app from Samsung that unlocks the full app support on the cover screen. It’s called Good Lock and it’s in Samsung’s Galaxy Store instead of the Play Store.

Not sure why they do this…I guess because they don’t want the average user to think that the cover screen will feel buggy if they try to run a non optimized app on it.

I suppose that’s possible, but I didn’t see the word “Bitlocker”. Would that not necessarily appear on screen? It just asked for a product key, which I thought was odd.

It wasn’t blocking me from logging into Windows (which would blue screen though). It was instead blocking me from using certain recovery options.

Edit: After some digging, that is likely what it was even thought it didn’t say Bitlocker on the screen. From screenshots, it looks like it occasionally doesn’t say that. Would make sense for security purposes and I’m sure many companies had something like that enabled. It made fixing the whole ordeal a much more slow and manual process though instead of just giving users some instructions!
