Everything is locked down and filled with NDAs when it comes to console development. To access the xbox game development documentation - you need to sign an NDA (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/gaming/gdk/_content/gc/getstarted/gc-getstarted-toc). To access the SDK (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/gdk) you need to be a “Registered Dev Center Partner” which requires a publisher, fee payment, and agreement (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/apps/publish/partner-center/open-a-developer-account). BUT even more specifically section 3 of the public GDK license agreement (https://github.com/microsoft/GDK/blob/Main/LICENSE-EN-US.MD) gives an idea of what you are allowed to do with that SDK code once given access and you can only use the code for “internal” use and only make one copy for backup use. This isnt even getting into how using the GDK makes your app subject to the usage agreement (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/usage-rules-for-digital-goods-rules-83812b1f-1ecd-9a46-d3a7-ad1eadce49d1).
The following is just my opinon on all this, but the way that I see it is that W4 represents industry priorities in the engine. In this example, the industry needs strong console support or cloud gaming and is willing to invest in it; or previously DirectX support. The Godot Foundation ensures that godot is able to focus on non-industry needs as well as community management. So they technically both contribute to the engine, but dont really overlap with each other cause they represent different groups who need to do different things with the same engine. That said - interop is needed as well because it is the same engine. ATM I trust juan and crew and the buracracy that is being built around godot to protect it and us while maintaining momentum.
It was between this one and https://mastodon.social/@ryanhoulihan/111497118442295008 ; which someone else can post
Alien: isolation - its okay, I just keep getting lost lol
Honestly, lemmy and the fediverse as a whole will have natural growth and thats fine - mastodon has been around for like 8 years and is only recently getting a small amount of attention and mainstream usage. Like take the long view - like the really long view like 15 years from now. It’ll probably be huge, but until then we will just share memes and have a good time discussing stuff.
At what point do you end up re-inventing c++?

The amount of node work recently is very impressive, great work overall
Absolutely agreed, source
Pixelfed just implemented an instagram import feature as well!
Hot is currently broken, fixes have been written and are in the process of being incorpated into lemmy.
This is now going to end up costing them more money cause they’ll have to police the usage of thier api with all these exceptions lol
That is how mastodon handles groups currently, as proper group support is still cooking. It is now on mastodons radar and hopefully that’ll lead to better support in the very near future.
Not that I have seen. Fortunately the API is open and documented here. There seems to exist a typescript bot framework, but I havent seen it in the wild.
Holy shit, an actually good explanation of the vulkan pipeline!
Oooh a lemmy-based game jam? Sounds like fun! From my perspective, a weekend jam is best cause I can only work on it on the weekends. Showing off game engines is always fun, gives a chance to flex lol. Maybe have a theme of federation?
there aren’t that many kbin instances out there
This is also due to its age, its only 2 years old and only just recently gained more than 1 contributor to its codebase. When the reddit migration started about 2 weeks ago, kbin considered itself still in alpha; with lemmy in beta. As the software matures, more instances will pop-up as admins gain confidence in it.
Personally, I think the CIA is also pissed at him after mysteriously losing tons of informants in 2020 and 2021. There are probably papers that trump mishandled that are so classified that they can’t be used in the indictment, cause that would be releasing them. I do not like either the DOD or CIA, but if there are two groups in this entire world who I would not want to piss off, its DOD and the CIA.
Both kbin and lemmy utilize parts of the activitypub protocol - a generic way for different social media sites to talk to one another - to make a reddit-like functionality. This means that regardless of whether you are on a server which uses lemmy or kbin, they can access and use each other. The only real difference for users is going to be the UI and that kbin has also used activitypub to give its users some dedicated mircoblogging capabilities (think mastodon). My advice is: if you are only interested in a reddit-like experience then use the one with the UI and community you perfer, but if you want an all-in-one account (and are okay with the added complexity that comes with) kbin is closer to what you want.
