  • i don’t mean this as discouragement but at least in my own personal experience, no it doesn’t.

that doesn’t mean it can never get better. just means for me getting diagnosed and taking different medications wasn’t the solution, it might not be for you either. so don’t be disappointed if you try it and it doesn’t work.

i don’t like how people hype up their prescription. just bc something works for you doesn’t mean it’ll work for everyone else, and it feels tone deaf when i see people in neurodivergent communities giving blanket “yes” answers to questions like this. it’s irresponsible and setting a large portion of people up for failure before they had a chance.

  • I agree with most everything you said here, it’s a good analysis. Sorry for being a bit of a reactionary this morning. Not sure why I was on such a shit-slinging vibe earlier but I’m willing to own up to it.

What does killing 1 ICE “officer” accomplish? How does that affect change in the right direction? Does this cause others to do the same and follow suit?

We need more that I don’t think we’re at the point of accomplishing yet. We need a full on civil war. One that I’m not sure how we get to kick off, all at the same time, all across the nation, without it fizzling out quickly.

I would see a civil war, or something like it, as the first “real,” and rational opportunity for an individual to kill an ICE agent. In my mind, doing so as a sort of lonewolf is so absurdly stupid as to not be considerable but I understand that’s probably not a reasonable take these days anymore when it comes to discourse in the commons. Therein is the sociopolitical paradox you mentioned about what actually sparks the powderkeg. In short, I think we’re saying about the same thing in principle, I’m just an edgelord before noon I guess lmao.

Thanks for taking the time to respond, I always appreciate discourse. Meet all sorts of cool people on lemmy. Hope life has more in store for you, for all of us. Good luck!

  • stop “going through the motions,” then? do something?? anything???

idk tbh anytime i see someone act as surprised as you are at this point it’s someone who believed, strongly, in the noble lies fed to us. i don’t mean to judge you pointedly, but knowing you’re an air force vet… doesn’t exactly inspire confidence in the counterpoint to that opinion.

i came from a family with a lot of military brats so im confident in saying 99% of people who enlist are either doing so out of economic desperation (aka coercion) or they’re dumb enough to believe the shit the recruiters/propoganda/government spew. if i offend… that’s fine. i have respect for the trauma, both physical and mental, that vets have gone through but i think you guys aren’t just cogs in a machine and are morally culpable for what you’re involved in doing. i respect the people on an individual basis, but spit on the org as a whole.

anyway idk not to babble on and on but point being maybe the euros are right when they say none of us have the balls to do what needs to be done. people won’t even say what needs to be said because they fear losing their jobs and careers due to corporate, dystopic surveillance of their every word. it’s the most milquetoast acceptance of literal fascism in history and your comment and the behavior you espouse is exactly why they’re able to do it.

don’t get me wrong, i’m not casting stones. i am not without sin either. i’m sitting here shitposting on the internet instead of marching. i’m also part of the problem; but it’s time we start calling it out instead of getting offended at the notion we are just letting it happen.

people won’t even say what needs to be said because they fear losing their jobs and careers due to corporate, dystopic surveillance of their every word.

in this spirit i’ll be the first to say. fuck ice. i won’t self-police myself for thought crime anymore. the first chance i get to kill an ice agent im taking, and every true fucking patriot should feel the same. it’s time to water the tree of liberty, man.

  • They’ve handily proven time and time again in recent memory how they can in fact just do things and the rest of the world will sit back and take it lying down, though. That’s the problem. Anyone who thinks it’s just an America issue or something like that grievously misunderstands the tenuous house of cards that the pax americana and era of modern peace is built upon. Realistically, how far are you willing to go to prevent fascism? Would you die for it? Would you crawl through the trenches in a land many seas away from home? Some people might say yes but realistically most Westerners and others would never dare give up their creature comforts. It’s not delusional to think the world can change in the way they suggest precisely because they’ve suggested it - that is the hallmark of the fascist movement and what ties their collective ethos together, a philosophy of domination in all aspects.

Idk in short, I agree that yeah these people are certainly morally bankrupt. Lots of them are delusional. Any group of people has some like that. That doesn’t mean we should strawman them. There’s lots of idiots and they might think the US could invade Greenland without causing an international crisis. Either fortunately or unfortunately, these aren’t the people saying that the US wants to own Greenland or that we should go to war with Iran, for example.

The people who control and run this movement are not delusional. They’re dangerous.

  • that’s just their point tho. it’s not true. it’s a fiction fabricated by bourgeois people so they can pretend it’s common people not wanting to work rather than them not being willing to invest in the “poors.” they need to not upset the working class while they rape us because the moment we become aware is the moment we throw them off top of us.

you live in a world where these people’s feelings are more important than your livelihood, at least in the company ledger. software dev is a great example of this. the industry isn’t some wild animal who randomly thrashes about. software and IT falling apart are active processes spurred by choices people who hold keys to the kingdom(s) are making, knowingly. every time some homeless developer gets thrown in jail because it’s literally criminalized to be unhoused here - that’s the system working as intended.

  • not to be exclusive but i dislike the contemporary trend of trying to shoehorn polygamy and polyamory into LGBTQ spaces, tbh.

i personally dislike poly, admittedly, but i don’t really think it should be illegal or anything either ig. either way, it’s a lifestyle choice one makes and not an immutable facet of your identity that you’re born with, which i know is an increasingly controversial opinion these days but tbh i don’t think poly people experience oppression or bigotry the same way queer people do and it’s disingenuous to act like they do. it honestly makes me kind of upset to see people so widely positing such a position. i know the inevitable comparison of this rhetoric im using to the rhetoric used against queer people historically but i honestly don’t think that’s a very fair comparison in the case of poly, but that’s a whole can of worms itself.

again, not really an attack on poly people or their right to exist. i know my personal disdain of it probably shines through a bit here in my voice but i don’t want to come off as rude.

  • of course he means it literally?

that’s why i think, as i said, his comment is reductionist. the key word is

I think the only bad thing…

he’s just trying to draw an edgy hyperbolic narrative that the world only cares about the Holocaust in particular not because it is a genocide but because it threatened the international status quo. he’s wrong, but he’s not a nazi, at least as far as i can tell from his singular comment. i won’t come up to bat for the original commenter, he very well could be a bigot or a nazi. i don’t have enough context to know as a reader. his use of leftist diction and the way he wields it is a pretty strong indicator that this was his intended thesis, on top of obvious contextual clues.

man fuck idek what else to say. your response here is purely reactionary, you aren’t even saying anything other than reaffirming things you’ve already said.

  • i don’t agree with the original comment bc it is pessimistic reductionism but i think you and the people dogging on it severely lack media literacy and critical thinking skills, as kindly as that can be stated.

in what way is the former reading more likely than the latter??

you need to make far more assumptions about the original comment and commenter to come to the conclusion that he made the comment out of some weird bigoted malice than to just accept the obvious reading of it being a commentary on global society’s attitudes towards various genocides.

jesus fucking christ i see this shit all over the internet and it is why our society is collapsing. just droves of people behaving and thinking in ways that would fucking abhor a literature teacher from even just a decade ago.

  • not really, i never was trying to implicate the holocaust as the sole arbiter of generational trauma. [i’ll take the L on my rhetoric being too hyperbolic, i can see how i implied that in my first comment now after rereading it. it is not exactly what i meant, sorry.]

it certainly had a massive effect on jewish society generally but im not trying to say every colonizer was personally a victim of the holocaust and went on to perpetrate war crimes as a result. do you think growing up during the 40s and 50s in palestine was anything but traumatizing?

i am trying to say the situation the west created after the holocaust only served to traumatize the jewish people as a collective social conscious further than before and is largely responsible for the genocide that israel has been actively involved with basically since its conception.

  • israeli zionists are looking at themselves objectively, they just don’t care. they’re literal neonazis, they think it is good what they are doing and saying.

everyone is rightfully shocked the descendants of the victims of the holocaust would go on to perpetrate their own genocide but it makes perfect sense to me. the west took these freshly minted holocaust victims and threw them carelessly into palestine as colonizers and declared the solution good enough. becoming homesteaders and colonizers was a poor substitution for therapy and healing of communities.

inb4 “yOu rEAlLy thINk a LiTtLe thERApY wOUldvE mAde anY DIfFerEnce??”

yes. yes i do, and that is a disingenuous interpretation of what i am saying anyway.

what do children raised in tumultuous environments do? they fall victim to the cycle of abuse and typically go on to perpetuate the cycle further as adults…
