I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment, but I mostly see this as a cautionary tale against putting excessive trust and power in the hands of one organization/company.

I’m pretty sure googls provides channel RSS feeds, and that is what newpipe/freetube (optionally) uses. A downside is that this does not include video length.

I agree. Apple’s products are easy to use because it is all controlled and created exclusively by Apple, but that is seen as problematic by many, including me. That does however mean that it will take a little more effort to use open source software, because you (and the FOSS community) are the one in control instead of apple, and it is up to you to set it up the way you want to.

I just hope Lemmy becomes huge so niche things will start popping up, I miss specifc band and game subs like r/KGATLW and r/factorio for example. Though I have also found the searching of communities across instances to be somewhat unreliable. I’m also hoping for some good meme communities to flourish.
