Edit: Though of course an urban tunnel cut down an extremely busy street is worst-case scenario. That money would probably buy you a lot more rail elsewhere.

The Broadway corridor has possibly the busiest transit line in North America and the per-passenger cost will be quite low, when it’s finished.

Then SpaceX is forced to adhere to political considerations and budget priorities. NASA oversight and intensely risk averse culture would not have allowed spacex to build a rocket factory, or risk throwing away prototypes for rapid iteration.

They have good flights but they do make a lot of noise at the waterfront. The smell of avgas is overwhelming, too. Nothing against them, it’s unavoidable, but I’m looking forward to their electric Beaver plane.

This is a baffling comment. There are tons of people on mastodon, more than I could ever hope to keep up with. I have a couple hundred accounts on follow and never manage to keep up. Honestly it could use some sorting.

My grandparents did this. Rather than downsizing after the fire and moving closer to services, they rebuilt their house even bigger and added an elevator, then asked all their kids to drive them around. Not ideal.

The bike lane on the bridge deck is eventually cleared, but usually not the first day or two after a snowfall. I check the hwy 1 ironworkers webcams, you can usually get an idea of whether it has been cleared by looking at them. On the north shore, the district does not clear bike paths quickly but the city is very good. He can look up the boundaries and plan a route that keeps him mostly in the city.

My opinion: The bridge gets too dicey for my comfort a few days every winter, especially because of the long northbound downhill decent followed by a poor sight line curve. It frosts over much faster than any bike lane on the ground. I recommend putting the bike on a bus to get over the bridge on days when it has snowed recently or if it was wet the day before and temperatures have dropped below 0.
