not my experience at all across 3 separate companies. Ime senior engineers are the highest level that still spends most of the day heads down most days, and that’s why I’m gonna stick it out at this level as long as I can.

not sure which ones, but at least one charges you per day for the length of your sentence even if you’re let out early
then lets assume a similar situation pops up, as they do from time to time. someone is hellbent on violence, is already committing a lot of violence, and is escalating rather than stopping. How would you architect a peaceful solution to that, and what would you say to the families of the people who were killed while you were architecting that peaceful solutions. It’s all well and good to say “there has to be some more peaceful solution” but then you have to actually find it and implement it.

That’s a thought I had as well, and based on my extremely limited knowledge and research I think it’s the conflict that’s being avoided. Rather than dealing with the person directly, you use indirect actions that signal the expected result when taken in that social context and then let the pressure of those expectations generate the result you need without you ever directly doing anything. My understanding is that the pressure is pretty enormous, your coworkers will basically shun you out of fear of being targeted themselves and resentment for all the work you’re not doing that they have to pick up instead.
