If you want Arch but a bit easier, just install EndeavourOS.

edit: fuck markdown, why do line breaks only work in pairs on lemmy, this is not a thing with markdown on discord so why here? it’s annoying
thethunderwolf@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Linux@lemmy.ml•I just found out my fiancee wants to switch to linux, lets start a distro war, what should be her first? + other questions1·1 day agoI hate GNOME because it feels like an iPhone.

thethunderwolf@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Linux@lemmy.ml•I just found out my fiancee wants to switch to linux, lets start a distro war, what should be her first? + other questions2·1 day agoFedora w/ Gnome for Mac converts is a no brainer
I use Mac (I’ll install Asahi Linux once it supports connecting a monitor) and hate GNOME
I personally prefer KDE

no socks, but not as sensory issue
socks just aren’t practical or useful. they make walking on some floors annoying, and since I go outside in sandals/slippers (this is my sensory issue, normal shoes are never comfortable) I’d have to take them off and on frequently. I don’t need the warmth where I live.
Pro-tip: don’t install Windows, don’t use any “debloaters”, just install Linux Mint
You’ll enjoy a long and happy OS life.

I have never had a Windows PC, I use Mac (I want to use Linux but I’m still waiting for Asahi Linux to have a driver for DisplayPort over USB-C), my photos are backed up and synced on iCloud already.
I don’t use any Xbox thing, I don’t have an Xbox; My Microsoft account only exists for one purpose and reason: Minecraft made me migrate my account.
Also isnt not having an unsubscribe button illegal?
thethunderwolf@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Not sure if I'm a fan of thisEnglish1·19 days agoFinder is ass, no feature to get filepath, no feature to open location in terminal, no way to go to parent folder (the button that looks like it does this actually is a “back” button that takes you to previous location).
Also you can’t quit Finder for some reason. On my Debian VM I can quit Dolphin. Finder is probably embedded to show files on the desktop. (I’ve never understood having the desktop be a directory, seems like bloat to me.)
Overall the DE is a lot worse than Plasma:
- Why isn’t the Dock (taskbar that eats 300 to 1200 MB of ram) a screen edge for moving windows
- Why won’t you let me customize stuff
- Why are app actions in the DE top bar rather than the window name bar
It’s also a walled garden that intentionally makes compiling apps for it hard for small devs (you need to be verified by apple to have your app not be flagged as “probably a virus”)
The only good thing about MacOS is that it is a very stable OS that rarely needs fixing.
I’m installing Asahi Linux as soon as it supports DisplayPort over USB-C.

My first pc was an ubuntu pc that i had for quite a while. As a teen I recieved this Macbook from my dad. My family is all Mac users rn. My dad is an IT guy and prefers FreeBSD over Linux for technical stuff such as servers, and Mac over Linux for personal computers. Now that I recently became a libre software fan, I used a Linux VM and found that KDE blows Aqua out of the water.
