I swear I think people’s egos just like to argue for the sake of argument and being intellectually “correct” rather than actually trying to understand the other person and their point of view. Reddit was especially awful with this, which was why I left.

Right. I feel like there was a lack of communication here (just from what I gather - I have not been in this situation myself).

I think that communicating with the shelter staff about what is happening would have helped here. They have probably had folks take advantage of them, and so they’ve got to be on guard constantly.

But communicating about what’s going on and allowing trust to develop and grow is what could have potentially prevented something like this from happening.

Safety regulations are often written in blood unfortunately.

Logic and love, people. Don’t let them have something to dig their heels into. You can change people with logic and love. Even the most curmudgeon people can change. Empathize and remain calm and understanding. Everyone is a human being with their faults and fallacies. I know it’s hard to see it that way, and the easy path is to argue and get angry. That will not work here Keep at it with logic and love and you will move mountains, I promise you.
