The content was incredibly boring. That site is already going downhill. I came right back to Lemmy and immediately was more entertained. You’re all much funnier and more creative. I feel like Reddit had a brain drain after the protest.
As I have never lurked r/all I don’t really know how exciting it was before, also I think “boring” is a very subjective theme, I mean, here Linux and privacy stuff hits c/all all the time and that can be boring for a huge amount of people, but not for all.
I’m not even a Linux user but I find the memes pretty funny. Same with programmerhumor or whatever it is
Last I checked, most of my content on r/all was r/aita and clone subs, r/weddingdress, and r/doordash, over and over and over. A lot of the subs that used to be on all never recovered from the blackout. My personal feed pretty much died because subs that would get 20+ posts a day went down to 1-2 a week.
I am really tired of all the “hurdur reddit now bad, lemmy good, apes together strong” circlejerk here that just… does… not… seem… to… stop.
You and I must be seeing different r/all pages (maybe because I actually blocked shitty subreddits long ago) but my r/all page does not look that much worse. Has kind of similar content as always on, to be honest.
Still, I like it better here, just opening my reddit app (not the official one) maybe once a week or so.

It sounds like you haven’t stopped using reddit, so you really wouldn’t have the perspective to know in my opinion. I always knew reddit wasn’t as good as it was when I first joined 15 years ago, but I didn’t really know until I left just how bad it had become. For me, personally, it was a slow boil over the years, so it was impossible to realize without leaving it. I’m honestly dissapointed that I didn’t leave earlier, because reddit really is that bad now, and has been for at least the past 5 years. But when I did leave last month, it was a breath of fresh air. The first thing I noticed there are no ads or algorithms tinkering with or diverting your thoughts so you don’t have as much guard over whether or not the content is actually disguised advertisements. And the content feels more organic and enjoyable, I’ve read far more articles on lemmy instead of just clicking into comments.

And you should realize that this will not stop for a very, very long time. Because every time there is a new wave of reddit refugees that come here, they will have these epiphanies, and those types of posts will start over again. I’ve only been here for a month but I’ve already seen it happen a couple of times now. Once when reddit actually turned off the API access, and now again recently when Sync released. Either block subs that generates those posts, or learn to deal with it, because it’s not going to stop. I found those posts annoying too, but I’ve learned to accept that the newcomers are excited and want to share some of the same thoughts when joining.
r/all has always been garbage. The brain drain can really be felt in the hobby subs. Back then you could get 10 to 20 good comments in a single thread. Now, it doesn’t even get to 5.
Unfortunately there aren’t active hobby magazines here now. I also struggle to find new magazines or much activity still.
A lot of the content generally went downhill on reddit as people left
For me both are in a bad phase. Here the top posts are always political and related to the United States. I had to block some communities
I think the main difference is that things here are improving over time.
I’m also pleasantly surprised at how friendly folks are as well as the depth of discussion.
I nuked a ten year old account on Reddit to move here and it feels just… More pleasant here.
Everyone’s rooting for it’s success which creates a very positive vibe.
Lemmy is still too obsessed with reddit, for as much as Lemmy loves to hate on Reddit they sure are very interested in it lol.
I’ve been saying it for days, when reddit went to shit everyone got fractured and thus all of the “replacement” platforms are just as bad as reddit for content right now.

…you say on the Lemmy community about Reddit. 😅
It’s understandable human nature, though. Many promising new dates have been spoiled by one of the participants not being able to shut up about their crappy ex.
Yep, I’m struggling to find a good filter still, I’m kinda getting bored of both tbh. The top content here is shit imo, and that’s with meme communities filtered. Happy that people here are of a better class of course so it’s fun to see this place grow.
I’m very greatful for Voyagers mark read on scroll so it’s just a matter of blitzing past like apollos experience.
Narwhal is decent for reddit at least but pales in comparison to Apollo (of course)
You think I’m funny, creative, and cute!! Aww I love you too!
They’re right, you know 😘
You’re great and all, but I think we should see other people… Sorry
'Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.
Well damn.
I promise it’s not you. It’s me, and the way you insist on including your hamster in our intimate times…
Not to sound IAmVerySmart, but all the smart people that saw the stupid intentions from reddit migrated to other sites. All the dead brain people stayed there.
Aka “normies.”
Which others though? Fark and Digg died years ago and I can’t remember the last time I regularly browsed slashdot.
Jesus, how many fucking amihot style subs are there now?
And last time or two I checked like 3 of the top 10 were all from subs that are clones of amitheasshole

Every popular sub on Reddit is the same four questions or topics posted over and over again. It is like users are unable to read any previous posts. I’ve seen old time users writing basically the same comment on multiple posts for years, and then new people would come and ask the same bloody question again. This convinced me to never post anything of value on Reddit. It just drowns in a sea of comments and will never be read again.
It depends on the subreddit but often this is encouraged by locking threads after a certain amount of time, meaning new comments are no longer possible. What’s more is that serving ads is a core component of Reddit’s business model and this works best if there is a constant stream of “new content” that can be injected with different ads according to the sponsor of the day.
I just took a peek at my formerly favorite sub and was immediatly greeted with 3 dumb shitposts, a scammer trying to sell counterfeit merch, and a repost right on the first page - all upvoted by the thousands. That sh*tshow is almost comical by now.
I joined Reddit back in 2011 not long after /r/Reddit was turned into a shell of its former self and ngl…I felt late to the party. Everyone always talked about it lol. And it’s kinda funny how this came back around in the end, I get to join /c/Reddit, which is some prime closure👌 and I remember it being my first rodeo where the community and posters got screwed by the Admins.
Not only that, but comments going on and on, no sense comments and fully bots trying to post and push stupid stuff. All videos come from tiktok, cuase no other platform exist.
I only visit one subreddit now. I used to have so many. This one is something I’m actively involved in and it doesn’t have representation here yet. I read less of it and post comments even more less.
You’re such a good man girl woman person. Thank you for your kind kindness :D
