      Behind the scenes: In the 90s, actor Chris Barrie was simultaneously playing a git (Rimmer) on sci-fi sitcom Red Dwarf and… also a git (Gordon Brittas) on sitcom The Brittas Empire, and he asked the Red Dwarf writers to give him a break from being a git.

      So they created “Ace Rimmer”, a counterpart from a parallel universe who embodies / takes the piss out of every cheesy cool guy / hero cliché ever (with every woman and man swooning over him: “What a guy!”).

      When Barrie eventually decided to leave the series, the writers created the ultimate Ace Rimmer episode for him to go out on a high. This scene is from that episode.
