A Black man who served 16 years in prison for an armed robbery conviction that was later vacated was fatally shot by a Georgia sheriff's deputy during a traffic stop as he was driving to visit his mother in Florida.
The FOIA’s criminal sanctions are found in Section 25-19-104, which provides that “[a]ny person who negligently violates any provisions of this [act] shall be guilty of a Class C misdemeanor.” A Class C misdemeanor is punishable by a fine of up to $500, imprisonment for up to 30 days, or both.
