    You can read the letter, it’s an open statement. He extensively talks about the Hamas-Israel war. He cites directly the actions and statements from the US, EU and UK about Israel and Palestine as the reasons to retire effectively at this date as a protest, even if he was going to retire this year anyways.

        And at no point does that letter in any way confirm the title of your post…

      He is retiring in a few days because that is the scheduled date of his retirement. He used this opportunity to voice his opinion one last time, which is fair. But he is not retiring “at this date as of protest”. That would be called resigning and he is not doing that.

      The last paragraph reads:

      I thank you, High Commissioner, Volker, for hearing this final appeal from my desk. I will leave the Office in a few days for the last time, after more than three decades of service. But please do not hesitate to reach out if I can be of assistance in the future.
