  • That’s sad to hear. Well, alternatively, when conditions like these get in the way malicious compliance tends to be the answer. Let them go, but they shouldn’t be surprised that the people don’t welcome them and make them feel as unwanted as possible.

All this while we (allies) start paving the long, bureocratic and legal way to defend ourselves, by rethinking and adjusting these same accords and treaties that prove themselves to be liabilities in these circumstances. They’re there to protect stability and balance, after all, not to excuse bullies wanting to impose themselves on other nations.

  • Deem them all persona-non-grata until they’ve backed down completely. Same for Canada, Panama, Germany and any other nation in the crosshairs of the US, whether for annexation or political tampering.

Strong worded letters won’t do anything with these sleezebags. Only actions. Otherwise they’ll always go up to you and grab your lollipop, because they know all you’ll do is complain without taking action. And words alone don’t hurt sociopaths who don’t care about feelings.

To them it’s literally ‘as easy as taking candy from a child’, because they know the child won’t defend itself beyond crying - and that’s what they want and expect. God forbid you actually defend yourselves, they’ll be offended and take to social media to condemn you.

  • Yup. This is the kind of situation most average people will underestimate or believe this is just media doing its usual thing of blowing stuff out of proportion and creating drama for views, until they actually find themselves in a scenario of powerlessness against tyrants who waited their whole lives to have this kind of power.

And I don’t mean Trump, specifically. I mean down to the ICE field agent who was always trigger-happy but was constrained by law and its consequences. These people now see there’s fewer and fewer guardrails preventing their abuses, and they’ll take full advantage of it.

Never underestimate human ambition. Both for good and bad. Appreciate your human rights, but don’t take them for granted - the only thing protecting such rights is the fear of the consequences of violating them by bad people.

  • I mean, it’s not like it really matters with him. He’ll always be right, just as we will also be always right. And his followers will believe him no matter what undeniable proof is presented.

Macron literally corrected him on the EU vs USA aid to Ukraine as he pouted in front of the cameras. Days later he reiterates the exact same lies he told in front of Macron.

We should still preach the truth no matter what, don’t let them silence us with their lies. Even if they don’t want to they’ll have to acknowledge them even if the people have to impose free will and equality again, because they are certainly finding ways to force the people to accept their lies by force and their totalitarian rule.

  • Yup, this is a good thing, as many people not following current US developments might not be well aware of the potential dangers of traveling there, and the lack of rights for certain groups.

Your average person will likely just assume media blew things out of proportion (as they often do), that it’s just ‘the latest drama’ and nothing should happen since, c’mon, it’s the US - freest nation on the planet right?

So being aware of the policy shift is a good thing, otherwise many people would be caught by surprise when there even with all the legal paperwork, visas and permits.

  • Yup. “But we’re not there yet”, so they say. “Too soon to act rashly”.

'First they started mass deportations, but it wasn’t a corrupt system yet, so we did not act.

Then they started refusing people who were critical of them, but it wasn’t a corrupt system yet, so we did not act.

Then they started blatantly taking money from the poor and give it to the rich, but it wasn’t a corrupt system yet, so we did not act.

Finally they fully took over the nation, but by then all the people who would have acted were already gone and dealt with.’

Not all, but the gist of it. Thankfully some bubbles of resistance are starting to form in the US, but the main people who were elected to uphold the law and fight this democraticly are already bribed or blackmailed, so it’s in great part up to the people, and whatever stance the army ends up taking when they are forced to choose between loyalty to the constitution, or an individual.

  • This should be standard, and very good on France for doing it. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

And I say this as someone who lives on a highly seismic region, where I used to see more awareness years ago. Pretty sure if nowadays we had a major earthquake or volcanic eruption most people would just panic, cause chaos and not have anything prepared for such an event. That’s the unnecessarily scary part.

We should always acknowledge the uncomfortable possibilities, not stick our heads in the sand and hope trouble never comes knocking at the door.

  • So Canada should just ignore all the stuff the US is doing, reinforce their economy by buying from them, and pretend there aren’t risks regarding the possibility of the US being able to remotely interfere with the jets they sell? As if control over others isn’t something the US would ever try to do.

The best machine in the world isn’t worth shit if its reliability when needed is called into question, and much less when the seller can’t be trusted with that much power. That’s buying a few jets by selling sovereignty with extra steps - quite the bargain for the US and their current aspirations.

Buy from reliable allies, such as the EU, and if total defensive independence is a must start building the needed framework to develop a competitive jet building industry so that Canada can build its own by the time these ones approach EoL. Main point, avoid the US jets.

  • Precisely that. If a forum meant for discussion has its credibility compromised, what good is it as a discussion platform?

It’s one thing disagreeing with one’s PoV or not tolerating actual aggressive/toxic behavior. It’s another entire thing to censor opinions written with civility and arguments, or allow for bots to derail any meaningful discussion and demotivate/shame people for what they believe in. En masse, at that.

I am willing to learn another person’s PoV if it differs from my own - heck, if they make a compelling argument and present facts I had not considered I might even change my stance on the subject.

But simply discussing in bad faith and relying solely on insults or disinformation, plus an unwillingness to also consider other people’s PoV is not the way to reach common ground on differing positions. That’s when I realize that person is playing around and I might as well not give them their fix of dopamine.

  • That’s if this article is actually corroborated by truth and not subject to bias based on “allegations”, and to me I often question Politico’s thirst for clickbait titles. If so, yeah, Poland should be held accountable like anybody else, but until then I don’t blame them for not wanting to accept people from Belarus, a nation heavily influenced by Russia. Especially in current times.

Has someone listened too much to actual regime propaganda? Because I remain critical of any sources telling me what to think.

Do bother replying if you must for the sake of your pride, but know that I don’t engage in petty arguments or pissing contests.

  • Yup. Also got my account suspension due to “suspicious activity” on “upvoting and engaging with discriminatory and violent content”.

Meaning I upvoted posts condemning US’s current position, and correcting the swarm of misinformation by US shills.

Glad I finally managed to nuke my entire reddit history and delete my account. F’ that toxic cesspool. R/Europe and other euro-canadian subs already felt like more US and Russian shills were active than actual europeans or canadians.
