Jim Carrey was paid $7 million for the original Dumb and Dumber, while his co-star Jeff Daniels — who shared top billing! — made just $50,000. Carrey wasn’t a big star when Dumb and Dumber went into production in 1994 and the comedy’s total budget was just $16 million — so how did he walk away with so much? “They offered him $350,000 to do the movie and he passed,” explains Peter Farrelly.
Not sure if people who only watched Jeff Daniels in Dumb and Dumber are aware of how long and storied his career is. He pulls off a great moron in that film, but he’s very strong as an actor. Terms of Endearment (1983) and The Newsroom (2012-2014) are his strongest work I think.
I re-watched this recently. Still holds up! Saw a YouTube video once that claimed the first draft of that movie had Jeff Daniel’s character be both Keanu’s partner and the bomber. That would have been a wild ride

Newsroom was nice. I love Aaron Sorkin and while Newsroom not live up to West Wing, I still enjoyed it a lot.
nice? Newsroom was NICE? What the actual f? That “sorority girl” speech alone is TV history.
He is amazing in Godless.
I loved him in Gods and Generals.
